A rather unusual early TR6........ORIGINAL paint, somewhat sun faded (primarily on the horizontal surfaces) but still presentable for daily use, incredibly well preserved engine bay paint, very clean underneath....no repairs, no patches, no undercoating, just bare metal with a slight haze of surface rust, easily removed with a wire brush (my plan but never got around to doing that). Even the original chrome is decent, not dented, not pitted, really incredible.I bought it, some time ago, in Virginia and the title indicated I was the third owner. Also listed mileage as 'exempt' so I think there is a reasonable chance it is original. Interior appears to be all original and in fantastic condition, no cracks or wear on the wood dash, no cracks on the dash top, so maybe original. Don't know.I do know that it wasn't abandoned as indicated by the new distributor, new fuel pump, new alternator, new convertible top, etc. Has proper red line tires, even the original Blaupunkt AM radio (and it works)! How much more original could one expect?Runs very well, 80+ psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke on cold start up or when running/driving. Exhaust sounds good, clutch doesn't chatter or slip, excellent synchromesh action in the gearbox, front end feels light, brakes work well with no sense of warped rotors, windshield seal isn't cracked, valves are quiet, doesn't have any excessive oil leaks and (of most importance in a TR6) no clunking in the rear end as is common on worn out TR6s. What else? Wipers, heater, all lights work, same with handbrake, horn, all gauges, and as I tried to show in one photo, the wiring is really excellent, not cut up or burnt out, or sliced open........a genuine good point on a well kept car.So there it is. IF I wind up keeping the car, plan on having the horizontal surfaces painted (cost around $1,000 in base coat/clear coat paint), maybe get a nice alloy rocker cover, mixed feelings about replacing the original AM radio. But, as it is, a nice, clean, possibly very low mileage car and from my experience, having owned English sports cars my entire life, there is the chance that the first (and maybe second) owners used this car for around town, country road, maybe to the country club and little else. So, what with the excellent interior, remarkably well preserved original exterior and engine bay paint, the fabulous condition underneath, even the good original chrome, it IS possible.Beyond what I have written, hoping the photos show how nice this car really is. Note reflections in the paint ('laser straight' and 'mirror image') even though it is FIFTY year old paint. Whoever gets this TR6 will certainly have something very special and in a beautiful color combination. My son can deliver this car on our race car trailer within, say, 300 or 400 miles and I would be happy to help a prospective buyer arrange transport anywhere. IF there is a delay in shipping, I would happily leave it in my barn until pick up. |
