CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
Like the original Bullitt car, this is a true "S" code mustang fastback. Not only this car is the closest it gets to the real Bullitt car, but it's a great investment because "S" code mustangs are very sought after. Back in the 1960's, Ford Company didn't stamping vin numbers on blocks like they do today. Instead, they used dated codes that references to the year of the car. To these cars there is no such a thing as "numbers matching", until the 70's when they started to stamping vin numbers. For the 1960's models the closest it comes to a numbers matching is "right era", meaning the block is from the same period. It's difficult to find a dated matching block, finding matching heads is another challenge. One different date distorts the purpose of keeping originality. Especially when it comes to heads. This car comes with both heads are dated 8AE (1968) and the block is dated: 8D17, (1968) . Photo attached. A perfect match, from heads to toes. A perfect date to be correct year for Bullitt Mustang. This is the closets as it gets to "numbers matching" car. What makes this car even more special is this block is a passager version of a 390 FE and not a truck version. All passager vehicles that came from the factory with a big block such as the Galaxie, Fairlane, and Mustang had a passager version of the 390 FE block. While all trucks were equipped with truck version of the 390 FE. The market is flooded with truck versions of 390 FE simply because no one wants them. Which makes them very inexpensive. On the other hand, everyone wants the passager version 390 FE so they can marry to correct car date. This is makes the passager 390 FE more valueable. The value of a passager version is between $7,000 to $12,000 depending on condition. The more its close to factory specs the higher it is. This car comes with the correct version of 390 FE and the correct stroke in standard bore cylinder as the day the day it left the factory. Many car builders/enthusiast know this and so they choose to cut corners by installing a truck version of the 390 FE into their builds. Tricking people into thinking they are getting a "s" code, but in reality they are not getting what they pay for. This is the reason why this car is a true "s" code and not like the rest of the budget built fastbacks. The body was a full rotisserie restored, its rust free. The floor panel were replaced with one piece panel like it came from the factory and not in small sections like most restoration do. Both quarter panels were removed and updated to the 1968 style. Not only to perfectly match the block date but to perfectly pay tribute to the bullitt car. The paint was a PPG Highland Green with Metallic add. High solid clear coat was covers everything for a perfect shine. Over 650 labor hours was spent on the body.
