In the world we live in now; upgrading your truck means adding some silly 22+ inch dumbo wheels and a LS/Coyote or Cummins motor into truck. Its a monkey see monkey do environment that has been played out too much making something that is period correct appreciated for what it is. This old Ford started life being built at the Ford Motor company factory in San Jose, CA, and sold new at Tike Decious Ford at 1240 Park Avenue in Chico,CA. The truck was purchased as a graduation present for the son of northern California ranceher before he went off to college. Being that California is the home of hot rodding and cruising your masterpiece down the boulevard or to the beach, whether its a 32 coupe, VW bug or Ford pickup truck. Being a young and impressionable California boy, A stock short bed 4x4 with a 351 v8 wasn't enough, it only made sense his F-150 would fall in line with the culture. Upon arrival in southern California a big block 460 out of a F250 ford was swapped in, aluminum 15x10 slotted mag wheels replaced the stock steel wheels, some custom hand painted pin stripping was added and this truck became a proper California beach cruiser. This truck is a snapshot of what was cool in the 70s and early 80s. It was tastefully modified early on in its life to fit his young California dream, after many years in southern California the owner and truck moved back up to Chico to settle down, by that time the novelty had worn off and the truck just sat. Short beds in general are desirable because they look good and were produced in far less quantities than long beds. Ford never put a 460 into a short bed half ton 4x4 truck which makes this truck uniquely cool that it is the biggest motor Ford made at the time into the smallest 4x4 body Ford made at the time. This is a formula that has been used for decades for hot rods, muscle cars and presently with performance trucks like the Ford SVT Raptor or Ford SVT lightning. Essentially making this truck that "performance truck" of the 70s that was never really built by Ford. Cosmetically this truck is in pretty good shape for a 42 year old 4x4 pickup truck. The body is decent there are little dings and dents most notably the drivers front fender is the worst part. The paint has aged pretty good and shines up great. There are spots that it has faded off as well as the hand painted pin striping done 40 years ago is not visible in spots. There does not appear to be any serious rust problems like rot and holes, it is 42 years old and has spent some time by the coast so there is some surface rust here and there that can be treated without having to patch up. The grille is in great shape with no damage and the aluminum shines nicely. This also goes for the front bumper, emblems and mirrors. The 40 year old slotted mags have aged good as well, they do not have any chips or chunks missing and for the perfectionist could be buffed and look new. There are still several Santa Barbra waterfront parking passes in the windshield from the early 90s. What you see is what you get the truck is not perfect but has aged pretty good in the last 42 years. Its a mild build done 40 years ago to fit what was cool at the time. Decades later it still looks really cool just now considered retro.Step inside this truck and the interior looks great. The dash has no cracks and all of the gauges are functional. The radio works but need speakers hooked up. The carpet is new with no rips or tears. The Seat has been reupholsters and looks great. The door panels are original as well as the headliner which is in good shape (not often do these old Ford headliners hold up like this has). Overall the interior is in good shape. Mechanically this truck is a strong runner. The 460 starts up great and pulls hard. It is not a race car but you can definitely get in trouble with this truck. 4 wheel drive works in this truck and the transmission shifts into all 3 gears and reverse. The truck has brand new 32x11.5 mud terrain tires fitted to the the 15 inch slotted mags.
