Volkswagen Beetle -Classic . Condition is Used. Approx. 113,000 if I am guess (mileage rolls over with only five (5) digits so hard to know how many times it has rolled over. 1969 Volkswagen Beetlefor sale. This VW was originally registered in Bullhead City, AZ in 1970 anddriven through the late 80's or early 90s until it was stored for a period inMohave Valley, AZ. My wife and I bought the Beetle in 2017 and transported itto Kingman, AZ, so the car has been in AZ all its life as far as I know. Thereis some minor surface rust on the door hinges (I think from sitting in a garagein the Colorado River Valley where the humidity is slightly higher). Since wehave owned the vehicle, we have made the following replacements/upgrades: -Replaced entire wiringharness with brand new OEM harness and fuse panel. All of the lights workincluding headlights, blinkers, hazards, brake lights, brights, license plate light, dome light and all the lights on the speedometer. After about 8 hours oftroubleshooting and soldering I was even able to get the horn fully operational(the original design was somewhat of an electrical mystery as nothing washooked up). The only thing I never bothered to rewire was the rear windowdefroster as it is AZ and do not use it very much. -Replaced all old brakelines with new stainless lines and braided hoses as well as new master cylinderand rebuilt rear drums completed and added front disk brakes. The front diskbrakes work well, but do squeal a bit (I need to adjust them, but haven't hadthe time). - Replaced all rubberfuel lines with OEM style German lines including metal line that enters themotor from the fuel tank. All the vent hoses and other lines surrounding thegas tank including the filler neck were replaced as the AZ dry heat had done anumber on the rubber. The only metal line of the fuel system I have notreplaced is the one that travels through the center tube as it was in goodshape. - Replaced all the shiftlinkage coming from the shifter back to where it hooks up with the transmissionincluding bushings and hardware. Shifter is an OEM shifter that has recentlybeen replaced (I have the old reverse lockout shifter that I had on it thatwill come with the car if you want to swap; it is an easy swap). -Rebuilt carb, replaceddrive belt, and recently changed oil/adjusted valves. Motor operates smoothlyand does leak a bit of oil, but is reliable and has been my daily drive for thelast three (3) years especially in the summer time (there is something aboutdriving around in the hot AZ summer with no a/c that is fulfilling). -Recently replaced allrear CV boots and backed CV joints as well as replaced a CV joint that was nolonger adequate. -Replaced all interiorcarpet and insulation during brake line work (all the brake lines areunderneath the carpet) as well as interior door panels and arm rests/windowcranks. Renovated the sunroof mechanical system so that it operates smoothly. When closing the sunroof, the lever needs to be held up, but it closes every timewithout issue. I removed the old plastic dash (I believe 69 or 68 was the firstyear for the plastic dash, my intent had been to weld everything up, so it hadthe look of the older all metal dash). Speedometer and odometer work as Ireplaced the speedometer cable and got the actual speedometer working. -Had the entire front-endincluding tie rod ends and ball joints professionally replaced by local air-cooledshop (TNT auto; they have been working on Vdubs since this thing waspractically new). -Replaced aftermarketEMPI exhaust that was on the Beetle with a factory exhaust system and side-exittube.I am probably leavingsomething out as there was a lot of time spent going through the mechanicaldetails of this car so my wife and I could use it as a daily driver reliably. Ihave driven down old 66 for car runs and it runs like a dream on the highway. However, if I were going to cross state lines, I would trailer it just forsafety especially on the interstate. This car has been a really fun project formy wife and I. Beetles are easy to learn to work on if you have any sort ofmechanical prowess and so it could be a fun project for a father and child orjust a cool car to tinker with on the weekends and drive around or use it as Idid as a reliable daily driver. Please let me know if you have any questions. -Matthew |
