1971 Ford T-Bird. This is an outstanding example of a well optioned 1971 Ford Thunderbird 2-Door Landau with Burgundy Fire exterior and the Special Brougham interior. This car was purchased in 71 in Meridian Idaho and from there spent the rest of the time in Arizona and Southern California. One couldn't ask for a better climate for a car of this type to be in for all of those years and it shows. The original owner took meticulous care of this car over the years , the second owner did as well making several improvements during his ownership, rebuilt front suspension, new bushings on rear suspension as well, and many NOS parts were also included in the sale to me which will go with the car also. The paint and cayman grain top on this car are original, the care that was taken of this car from day 1 is evident. The drivers seat has had parts of the upholstery replaced on the seat bottom and lower back, it was done with OEM material and it matches perfectly. Unless the replacement upholstery sections are pointed out to a person they have gone undetected so far by everyone who has seen the car. As seen in the pictures there is plenty of extra material also included, hopsack and vinyl. All of the weatherstripping is pliable and seals well when traveling at freeway speeds, there are no air or water leaks. The trunk of this car is dry with no evidence of leakage which can be a major problem with this model. The rear deck drains have been replaced to be proactive. The accessories work as designed, the window motors, regulators, and tracks have been serviced, both windows move up and down quickly and smoothly with reliability. The mechanical restoration of this car included the engine, ignition, transmission, Magnaflow exhaust, rear end, steering box and associated parts, brake system, coolant system (radiator, heater core, all hoses and lines), fuel system (all soft lines and fuel tank) in addition and electric fuel pump with a regulator with return to the tank was added. The car is currently has a 650CFM Quickfuel carburetor but with the return system and relays installed on the passenger side behind the battery it could easily accept a Holley Sniper fuel injection unit - that was planned. The engine runs excellent off of 89-91 octane pump gas and develops far more power than it did before the upgrade/restoration. The shaker hood scoop is an aluminum Scott Drake reproduction of a 69-70 Mustang unit. The undercarriage was thoroughly steam cleaned and inspected, there is absolutely no rust present on this car, the frame and body structure are in the same condition as the day it left the factory. The original undercoating is in place on almost 90% of the car, paint is present still where it has flaked off. The entire frame of the car which was mostly unpainted from the factory has been cleaned, sanded, and painted with POR15 Chassis Black, it looks phenomenal - the car would look good parked on a glass floor above a bar. Location and care over the years make all of the difference on these cars today. This is a car that can be driven anywhere anytime as is or with some attention to detail body and paint it could be a strong contender as a show car. Share this: |
