It is possible the dealer installed these after delivery from the factory. Also the passenger seat had an adjustable seat instead of a fixed seat installed by the second owner in the 1970s, which is a great improvement that took the factory until 1972 to implement. Original paint color: Adriatic Blue Interior Material / Type: Leatherette, Black Basketweave, and updated top line, ($650.00 per yard) Ralph Lauren Tartan plaid seat inserts and matching RL luggage piece. The factory did not offer the Tartan material until 1974 on 914 cars, which was a tremendous improvement on the cars' appearance. Original options also included: Tinted Glass all around. What I have from 1977 are sales records and personal knowledge from research and my personal ownership period. I have exhaustively researched the history of this car and feel I can represent it accurately. The original owner had the car for a little over two years and sold it to the second owner, a Navel Air Serviceman in San Diego in 1972 with approximately 25,000 miles on the car. The second owner placed the car in storage from 1978 to 1993 after he was deployed overseas with the military. When the third owner bought the car on April 13, 1993, it had approximately 125,000 miles on it, and after being in storage for so long, it needed an overhaul of the motor and transmission. The third owner had the motor and tranny rebuilt and drove it for approximately one year with a mileage showing of just over 131,000. I cannot verify all of the service during his ownership, but he stated he put over $70,000 into the car's motor and transmission along with other upgrades. When the car was purchased from him in 1996, it had Fuchs wheels and racing stripes painted all over. Also, there were a few dents and dings so the car was re-painted a few years ago. One great thing about the car is it is absolutely rust free, which is a testament to the many years it was in storage. The third owner was very sick when the car was purchased from him and died within a couple of months afterwards. It was the reason he was selling the car. I had a mechanic inspect the car and found it had an upgraded side shift installed, a new hotter cam and larger pistons that gives the car a displacement of 2.2, instead of the factory 2.0. He also had larger calipers and rotors and other upgrades. I put everything back to its original specs other than the increased engine displacement and the side shifter, because they are great improvements to this car without sacrificing much in originality. The car runs perfectly and is fast. The car looks as it did when new, other than the adjustable passenger seat and tartan plaid inserts, which greatly improves the car's appearance and functionality. When the restoration was completed, it was fitted with new rotors, calipers, all new rubber bushings, new rubber seals throughout, new original carpeting and mats, as well as a second set of customized mats with the PORSCHE logo stitching. The car has some Porsche 916 upgrades such as a hand stitched Italian leather covered dash and shift boot and leather covered back padding. The only deviations from the original state of the car, are improvements that Porsche themselves implemented to them in the early 70s due to complaints about the very early car's upholstery and some mechanical issues and the seat belts, newer (1972) retractable seat belts were installed. I feel confident the individual I bought the car from was honest regarding the work performed on the car, and along with my own research, this car's engine and transmission have approximately 10,000 miles on them since they were rebuilt. The performance and drive-ability of the car support this. I have the names of the other two people who owned this car, but will withhold it out of respect for them. However, I will release that information to whomever purchases this car. One of 3,350 built. A very rare collectible car and solid investment. I encourage any interested party to inspect and drive the car prior to purchase. I will provide free pick up and drop off from the SLC International Airport. A $1,000 non refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction's close, with the balance due within 7 days. Thank you for your interest in this special car. More pictures are available of various stages of the restoration upon request.
