It's a loaded machine that is presented in a highly original and very '70s-style color combo. The Cougar was built to be a Mustang in a dinner jacket, and 1973 was the last year Mercury fulfilled that promise. By the next year it would grow in size, weight, and there was no convertible option. The Ivy Bronze Metallic paint is believed to be original to the car, and so it almost seems like a tribute to the last of the great Mercury cats. It is amazing how everything still looks so complete on this car from its 45+ years. Then again, averaging under 1,200 miles annually tells you it was treated with respect instead of the daily grind. The chrome bumpers are bright; the lenses are clean and clear; and the body is complete, right down to the XR7 badges. The only addition we can spot are those polished American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. And they just seem fitting considering they are a period-correct style and they add to the shine of this distinct Mercury. The green interior has a very cool look against the darker green exterior. So if you like '70s style this one really delivers. XR7 was the top of the line for the Cougar, so you can certainly expect this one to be loaded. It starts with the high back bucket seats with a comfortable center console in-between. There are nice features, like power locks, a color-matched convertible boot cover, and the factory AM/FM stereo. Plus, power windows and a power convertible top mean you never have to leave the driver's seat to go from enclosed comfort to a wind-in-your-hair experience. There are even provisions for factory air conditioning. The whole package does show some signs of its age, but with this level of originality, we really just thank it's a signpost to tell people this is a survivor. Those who have driven Mustangs from this era will find something familiar about the layout of this Cougar, except there's an added premium feel. For example, you still have the same sporty sloping dashboard setup, but now there's more wood-like trim and a substantially larger gauge package. Under the hood is Ford's famous 351 cubic-inch V8. This is believed to be original to the car, and just like the rest of this Cougar, it's showing a high degree of originality. Of course, the ribbed valve covers and XR7 badge on the air topper can't help but flaunt some of this car's style. More than just fashionable, this V8 likes to please with power. It inhales deeply from the four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with a sweet sound of the dual exhaust. These were built to be true cruisers, and so you get nice driving features like a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes w/discs up front. Complete with maintenance records, this is the cool-looking survivor-grade convertible offered for a terrific price. Don't miss out, call today!
