CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
Here’s a history of the car, as best I know. My Dad bought the car when he was 18 years old. It was manufactured the year he was born, a small fact that he was proud of. He was attending Hastings College and failed his math class. This made him no longer eligible to avoid going into the service for the Korean War. Prior to going into the Army, he lent the car to a friend to drive while he was in the service. Unfortunately, this friend didn’t put enough antifreeze in for a Nebraska winter and the block cracked. Once my Dad was released from the Army, he was smart enough to buy a spare block and head and some miscellaneous parts as shown in the pictures. My folks bought a house in Colorado in 1962 and the car has been garaged in Colorado ever since. It has rust on the running boards after all the years, but in my opinion overall the body is in good condition considering the car is around 88 years old. My Dad was able to get the engine running back in the late 1970’s, but only for a brief moment (measured in minutes as I recall watching him achieve this milestone for his six sons). Dad put some epoxy on the exterior of the block to address the exterior leaking. He didn’t follow through on getting the engine fixed or getting the engine running again. Just to be clear, the car is not in running order so you will not be able to hear the motor run or take it for a test drive. From the time I was a kid, the car was always yellow. My Dad started to sand and repaint some of potions of it, as you can see in some of the photos. It appears that the original color is a green/gray. However, he had the wire rims powder coated and put some new tires (from the country of Chile) on the car years ago. You will notice in the photos that the front windshield folds down for the true open-air convertible experience. My Dad mounted a propeller on the front headlight bar which he said he could hear spin when he would come to a stop. My Dad said he was in an accident with the car. As the story goes, he was driving the correct way on a one-way street in Hastings when a Firetruck with lights and siren blaring turned onto the one-way street heading the wrong direction to get wherever it was going. Unfortunately, my Dad couldn’t get completely out of the way and the car was damaged. I don’t know how it was damaged. The story ended with my Dad going to traffic court with a ticket for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, but the Judge threw out the ticket feeling that my Dad made a good faith effort to get out of the way of the Firetruck. I do not have the ignition key for it. Somehow it got misplaced when we emptied out our Dad’s house following us putting him in a memory care facility. I inherited the car in July of 2018 and it has been in my garage in Colorado ever since. I offered it to my brothers, but none of us want to take on the restoration project. So, after nearly70 years of continuous ownership, our family is selling this legacy car. If you would like more photos, please let me know.
