Engine: 8 cyl 1971 Pontiac GTO Fully repainted in 2020 and looking seriously mean, clean and straight. 400 cubic inch V8 Pontiac engine. Automatic transmission, power steering and brakes. The previous owner states the engine has been rebuilt within the last five years. The engine has a mild cam, and runs very, very well! Original parts include the intake manifold, valve covers, and Rochester Quadrajet carburetor. The factory air cleaner is in place and the lid has a Day 2 engine ID decal added by a previous owner. The previous owner states he always used a high zinc content 10w40 motor oil when servicing the car. The engine compartment is real clean and detailed. The engines small cam is accompanied by the factory HP manifolds. The transmission is a TH400 automatic transmission. The transmission is not the original, however the original transmission is in New York, and the man that has it is willing to sell it should the next owner of the car want it. The TH400 installed in the vehicle feels like it has a small stall converter and a shift kit, nothing crazy but nice firm shifts. The rear end is a 3:73 limited slip factory unit. After the car was restored, it was ran at Island Dragway in New York, in which it clocked a 14.0 flat quarter mile time. Built 4/29/71, sold new in 1971 at Bill Beck Pontiac in Charlotte, NC. Originally this vehicle was Laurentian green, but when restored the color was changed to black. The vinyl top has been replaced with a reproduction high quality vinyl. The sheet metal on this GTO is original, and has had no panels replaced. A factory correct, hood mounted tachometer has been added to the exterior (optional item for the GTO). Through information the last owner who we acquired the car from gathered, the car left Mount Airy, North Carolina in the mid-late 1990s for New York. Once in New York, the gentleman who bought the car sold it to his friend, who did the restoration on it. At the time the car was bought in North Carolina, it was already black but the interior was the original green. During the restoration, it was repainted black and the interior changed to sandalwood. All of the chrome is in excellent condition. The outside mirror on the driver’s door has been replaced with an NOS part. The glass is believed to be the original glass as the windshield is equipped with the radio antenna. The grilles are original and in good condition. The odometer shows 46,xxx miles currently and given the condition of the body, chassis, and interior It’s believed to be original. The 2nd to last owner also states the mileage was original when it was last sold to him. The underside is rust free, undercoated, but really clean and solid. The exhaust has been replaced within the last few years with two chambered mufflers for a true muscle car sound (not obnoxious when driving at highway speeds). The vehicle was originally equipped with four wheel manual drum brakes, however it has been upgraded to power front disc brakes using all new parts. Original parts can go with the vehicle. An alignment was also done after the front brake upgrade was completed in 2019, the tires were also added at that time with BF Goodrich Radial T/A P235/60R15 front and P245/60R15 rear. Trunk area is well preserved with correct mat, spare tire, and jack. Only high-quality reproduction parts or NOS parts were used to complete the trunk appearance. The bumper jack is an original part in excellent condition and is stored underneath the spare tire, along with the jack handle. The interior looks beautiful. A replacement dash pad was installed by a previous owner from a 1972 Pontiac Luxury Lemans. Last spring, a Retro Sound radio was put in the car. Instead of using the original radio antenna in the windshield, an amplified radio antenna hidden inside the glove box was used. The radio also has an auxiliary output jack that is hidden underneath the dash and can accommodate a phone/ipod/MP3 player. When it was installed, the dash surround was trimmed out, but luckily the metal dash frame behind it was not damaged says the last owner. The original interior was green and changed to sandalwood (beige/tan) during the restoration. The seats, carpet, door panels, etc are all in very good condition and are original parts. The clock in the dash is inoperable. All dash lights work great, but again the clock lights do not as there is no printed circuit on the back of it. New headlamp switch installed last spring, along with the headlamp knob and rod as well as a new rear package tray. All window regulators work like new and are smooth rolling up and down. Both levers for the dash and floor vents work great as does the fan and there is no issue with air flow. All exterior lights work as do the windshield, the wiper blades were switched out last year with Anco Vintage wiper blades to keep the correct appearance. This is a very nice-looking GTO that drives as beautifully as it looks beautiful! (Validate entire description for accuracy before bidding/purchasing) About Veits Vettes & Collector Cars Our cars are specialty cars ...collector cars...award winning original automobiles...show stopping restored autos... and newer highline Specialty cars! We scour the country for those rare gems. That beautiful Corvette, or Chevy-Ford-Mopar Muscle Car, maybe a Thunderbird that makes you just burst with pride. How about those amazing Retractables or the fun Rampside, or the stylish Mark II Lincoln, or sporty Turbo Trans Am or prestigious Mercedes? We have collectors all over the world that offer to sell us these cars. In fact that’s how we get most of our cars, from collectors. We avoid auctions whenever possible because we know that’s where sellers take their misrepresented headaches, problems cars they cant sell locally. But when you sell cars of the quality we do, at a price we hope is competitive, as we try to always do, the buying and inventorying becomes particularly hard. We peruse car clubs, newspapers and word of mouth everywhere we go. It's not at all unusual to drive hours out of our way, to look at 1 car. Sometimes, that drive is really worth it. Small towns can have rare gems. You have to look at a lot of cars, in order to buy only a few. That's a lot of crawling in and under to find the right stuff. But that's ok. We're fussy – because our customers expect it of us. They rely on that. Many of our clients are repeat buyers. They already are lucky enough to have 1 or more "toys" purchased from us. Sometimes they want to add to their collection, sometimes they just want a different one to play with, or they want to trade. Whatever, their reason, we've got the answer. We've got the investment car. You can drive ours right off the floor and enjoy a day in the sun or take them to a car show, with pride. Lots of our cars have won trophies, regionally and nationally for their new owners. Of course, we get walk-in sellers too. Someone has a car they have grown tired of, or perhaps they inherited a car they really don't want. Perhaps they just need the money. If that's a specialty car - if it's been lovingly cared for, and is either a collector car, a muscle car, exotic, a hot rod, a classic, a foreign, or an antique automobile - be it a sedan convertible, t-top, targa top, hard top, coupe, convertible or roadster...we're interested. Our customers come from all walks of life and all parts of the world. Most of the time a new client can't physically come to inspect a particular car. That's ok, we'll walk around it and describe it to them, over the telephone and or Facetime. We have a reputation for giving only honest information, when describing our beauties without leaving anything out. We do have some customers that leave disappointed....Sometimes a customer wants a 'fixer-upper". Sorry, we simply don't carry those. We don't have those "Winter Projects". The closest we can come to that, is a show worthy, drivable, almost perfect car that someone wants to make into a totally flawless show stopper. It will never be allowed to get dusty - not even the engine. Those buyers will feel like they're in a candy store. It is our top priority as collectors ourselves, to describe all of our vehicles accurately, to the best of our ability. Even though we scrutinize each car before we buy it, we resell cars, we do not restore or warranty them. Therefore we cannot guarantee any of the claims made by previous owners, their agents, or consigners. We recommend that any individual, contemplating purchasing any used car or collector car- from us or anyone else - to either inspect it themselves, or send a trustworthy individual, to verify that it’s description is accurate. If you have trouble locating such an individual, we will be happy to recommend an impartial, unaffiliated individual or firm to assist you . Okay, you've dreamt about the car you saw here. You can afford it. You can't stand it - you just gotta have it. But now what? You don't want to drive it all the way home. We'll either ship it to you ourselves, or arrange for shipment via a major enclosed car shipper. These shippers do nothing else but ship cars - of all price ranges. They're good, dependable, careful and fully insured. Drivers tell us constantly how cars being delivered, from other sellers, often bring tears of regret to the new owners. But when they ship OUR cars, the proud new owners are never disappointed!!!! We get phone calls all the time, from our clients telling us their joy at the car being just what we said it was.
