CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
Up for sale is my prized and cherished Pagoda Top 1971 MB 280 SL. The 1971 model year was the final year of production for these W113 model cars and there were approximately 830 produced in that year. I have coveted this model for years and am proud I was able to acquire this one a couple of years ago. I have to tell you, it has been the car of my dreams and I have cherished it over this time. I even got the exact color combo I love! I think I’ve been a good steward of this car during its tenure with me. Of course, it was in outstanding shape when I got it and I believe I have only added to it. There was a small leak when I first got it— very minor, but I wanted to get it fixed and it is. It was slightly more complicated than it seemed at first, but its all dry now. At the same time, my mechanic, who is an expert on this specific model of Mercedes pointed out several other minor imperfections and restoration elements from past work that weren’t exactly factory stock and we fixed those as well. As an example- when work had been done several years ago, the car was undercoated with a tan paint instead of the correct black. I suspect that was done because someone wanted to highlight how clean t was underneath. Well, that worked, but now its fixed and repainted with the correct factory undercoating. There are several other instances of minor corrections similar to that. The result is a car that is exceptionally beautiful and mechanically awesome. This car is everything you would want and expect from this caliber vehicle. There are, of course, receipts from work over the last several years totaling thousands of dollars and they will be provided with the car. The car runs, drives, accelerates and stops as new. The paint and interior are also in great shape. There are no “stories" and no apologies for anything about this car. I have priced the car at what I believe to be a very competitive and fair price. The Hagerty Price guide is shown here:Current ValuesValue Adjustments+$4,500 for hard top. +10% for 4-spd. +17% for ZF 5-spd. +15% for a/c.You can see the range between excellent and concours, and while the condition of my car is fantastic, I’m not going to call it concours. You may find a flaw here or there- some slight scratches on the chrome trim around the back window of the hardtop- but what you would find is nothing serious and nothing that couldn’t be corrected easily if you did want to turn it into a concours winner. I have preferred to keep as a driver— a driver in what I (and others) would call beautiful, outstanding, excellent. condition. You won’t be disappointed. Why am i selling it? Simple— I’m 64. My health isn’t what it used to be, but I’m hoping to be able to move out of this into another couple of bucket list cars before I have to stop. It's that simple. I’m fortunate enough to be able to say it's not about needing to get my money out before I buy something else— I just need the space! I’m a single guy, with three cars and only a two car garage. This car and my other collectable stay in the garage, while my porsche stays in the driveway. The car comes with the removable hardtop and the soft top is new. I’ve never taken the hardtop off and I’ve never had the soft top up. Its never been driven in the rain. It has an upgraded, new AC Compressor, which is considered an major improvement over factory. Finally, it is, of course. Numbers matching engine, transmission, and colors. Call today, please. You can pay more at one of the classic car dealers, as you may find- but they won’t be in better shape. I talked with several of them- I know how they work- the markup and fees they generate for the listing would require that it be listed for about 115k to get the price I want. Save yourself the hassle and the money—I’m easier to deal with and nicer. I won’t do a high pressure sales routine on you. You can either buy it or not— either way. Or, you could get lucky and find one cheaper, but I guarantee it will not be in the same condition as mine. Or— you can buy mine. Great car, great condition, great price.
