1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS ConvertibleFor sale is my 1968 RS Camaro convertible Serial Number124678N409648. This is a two owner car with the first family owning it for thefirst 52 years. The car was bought new at a retail dealership in Yazoo City, Msand the car stayed in that town for it’s entire life. I have it now in Madison,Ms (near Jackson, Ms which is at the intersection of I55 and I20 in CentralMs.) The car is a Rally Sport (an upgrade option) convertible with power top. Itis rare in that it is a convertible top vehicle with power brakes and powersteering and factory air conditioning. Of a total Camaro production in 1968 of235147 only 16927 were convertible V8 models and only a very few had thesepower and a/c options. The car is very original. It has it’s original matchingnumbers V8 engine, a 327 cubic inch engine with 2 barrel carburetor and ratedat 210 horsepower with a 8.5 compression ratio. The transmission is also theoriginal a 2 speed Powerglide automatic (127165 Camaros came with thattransmission.) There are approximately 106000 miles on the car. It has not beendriven over 8000 miles in the last 20 years. But drive it does and very welltoo. It cranks, runs, shifts, drives and stops quite well. The Rally Sportoption included a deluxe interior, extra badging and hidden headlights (whichopen when the lights are switched on.) This vacuum headlight system has beenrebuilt and works well. I own a classic car restoration business (ClassicRestorations, LLC) and we had done extensive work on the car for the previousowners. This original family that owned the car was the Holmes family fromYazoo City, Ms. We had done condsiderable work on the Camaro prior to mypurchase of the car in May 2020. We had done the following among other things:Rebuilt the brake system with new rubber lines, shoes, hardware, master cylinder (4 wheel drum brakes)Replaced the body bushing (polyurethane)Radiator recore ($400+)New exhaust tailpipesNew batteryNew starter solenoid Rebuild of A/C system with new compressor, condenser, POA valve, hoses, dryer, etc.) Blows coldNew engine beltsNew motor mountsNew Transmission mountsNew Pittman armNew fuel senderRebuilt the carburetor. The tires have less than 2000 miles on them and were new in2013. We have all the service records on the car from 1992forward. The car is very dependable. Very smooth and easy to drive. The front end was completely rebuilt in 2012 and has lessthan 3000 miles on it.After I bought it I upgraded the Camaro is this manner:Replaced the seat covers with the correct Deluxe interiorincluding new seat cushions for both front seats. The door panels had beenpreviously replaced as had the carpet which remain in good condition.Rebuilt the headlight vacuum system so it operates correctlyReplaced the old steel wheels with correct Rally wheels andcenter capsHad the original radio rebuilt and it operates wellNew headlight switchNew spare tireNew correct vinyl floor mat and spare tire cover. In addition we repainted the car (June 2020). The originalpaint was Code GG Ash Green. The Holmes painted it white about 20 years ago andwe repainted the old tired white in a matching white (base coat clear coat withMetaluxe brand materials). The paint is (to us) about a 9.5 on a 10 scale. Thiscar is and has been rust free (except a floor pan on the passenger side wasreplaced 20+ years ago as water leaked into the floor) See the photos of thebottom to see that this is a rust free vehicle. The convertible top was replaced about 20 years ago. There are two tearsin the interior headliner material. This is a rare, highly optioned original car that is also anexcellent, dependable driver. Please direct any questions or requests for moreinformation to Mike Martin 601-906-1196 or [email protected]. The caris in Madison, Ms. and can been seen and driven there. |
