CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
I am probably going to regret this, but up for sale is my 1968 Charger. Growing up in the Dukes of Hazzard generation I always wanted one of these second generation B bodies. I have owned this car for 5 years now and have only put 14 miles on it. For the first 3 years I worked night and day restoring it and for the last 2 years I haven’t touched it. I am at the finish line with it and exhausted and have just lost interest in it. I have another project car that I want to focus my energy on so I have decided to let it go. The car is in fantastic shape. Frame rails are absolutely perfect with no rot. It is NOT a rotisserie car, but it is a very nice car. I stripped the entire body of the F5 green paint and cut every bit of rust out of the car and replaced it with sheet metal from AMD or original sheet metal. I finished the body with minimal filler and painted it using the PPG line and DCU2021 High build clear. The color I selected for it is Cortez Silver from a 68 Camaro and it complements the black interior and top perfectly. I probably spent an entire month restoring the grill and getting the paint colors just right. The grill has all its original parts and is not missing anything. The headlight doors open and close with vacuum as originally designed. All the trim including the grill trim, gas cap, window trim etc is all original so you can expect some scratches on it, but presents very well. Bumpers are original 68 bumpers re-chromed by Tri-City Plating. The body gaps are perfect and the body lines are perfect. There is a scratch on the lower passenger fender that will buff out. I grazed my car trailer loading it one day. Also there is a spot on the back deck that is hardly noticeable where I saw a small bubble. All super easy fixes for a body guy. You will also get a little less than a quart of the original PPG paint color if you ever need it. The interior of the car was removed, floor pans were replaced along with the trunk pan. Seats were stripped down to the frames, media blasted and painted black and recovered with all new foam and covers. It has buckets with center arm rest and new door panels and carpet. The dash was removed media blasted and restored completely including re-building the wiring harness. The foam pads on the dash and upper doors are original and show well but not new. The oil and temp gauges don’t work but the fuel and speedometer do. I had planned on installing an aftermarket set so I didn’t really care. A new headliner was installed along with a new package tray with holes drilled for the new 6x9 speakers that are back there. It was already cut out for them so why not utilize it? I never got around to installing a stereo head unit but is all wired for it. All seals around windows and trunk were replaced with new rubber. Car is stored in a climate controlled building and still smells like a new car. Options include PS/PB/Rear Defrost/AC/Manual Crank Windows and Automatic Trans. The drive train is a 383 with a 727 Torque Flight Transmission. The engine was stripped down to the bare block and was in unreal condition for a 52 year old car. The bore and pistons were all STD and there was no wear so I had the machinist hone the cylinders and reassembled the engine with all new rings, cam bearings, heads rebuilt etc. The car still sports its original 2 barrel carburetor. Every piece of the engine was cleaned media blasted and painted separately and is incredibly detailed. Being an original A/C car I replaced the drier and flushed the system and loaded it with PAG oil but never charged the system. I drew a vacuum on it and it held so I have no reason to believe that it wont blow cold. Again, I have never really driven it. The transmission was replaced with a rebuild kit from Dayco and updated Transgo valve body to give crisper shifts and no converter drain back. A new stock converter was installed at that time. Car has an exhaust system on it and sounds good but will need replaced soon. The entire front suspension was removed and all new ball joints, tie rods, center link, pitman arm, control arm bushings and shocks were replaced. A new disc brake conversion was installed at that time along with a power booster and master cylinder and all new steel brake lines. Do you remember when I said I am exhausted???? The car still needs an alignment done after all this work, I just never got around to having it done, but its close. This car is perfect for the guy that wants to “tinker”. The mention able items below are what I can remember that the car still needs. $500 deposit required on purchase. Car will not leave my possession until funds have cleared the bank. Clear FL title in my name. Title will not be transferred until funds clear my bank. If you buy the car and show up in person and don’t agree with my description, I will refund your deposit no questions asked. If you buy the car sight unseen and have it shipped without personally seeing it and disagree with my description, I will not refund your deposit or your purchase price. I am an honest person but you have a responsibility to inspect or have the car inspected before purchasing it. I have never had someone complain about my work but there is always a first.
