CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
This is a $2200 car with $800 wheels and I'm attempting to add $300 to cover selling fees. It's a 232 with 3 spd manual transmission base model. Has super rare '79 AMC Spirit/Concord wheels on it which look very good on this particular model. Whole car got repaired about 6 years ago. New windshield, rebuilt alternator, water pump, fuel pump, fan belt, ECU box, distributor cap, spark plug wires & plugs, valve cover gasket, brake master cylinder, front brake hoses, gas shocks on front, all new 2.25" exhaust (manifold to tailpipe outlet) with lightweight Thrush turbo muffler, four new tires and more recently a new two row aluminum radiator. As far as I can tell, it only came with two options from the factory; HD cooling package and rally stripes (which may have been dealer installed) It has a trailer tow receiver hitch neatly welded into the rear bumper -perfect to take a small sailboat or jet ski to the lake, haul a dirt bike trailer etc. I installed an AM radio with good replacement speaker -as it might have been back in '75. It has a few '73 Gremlin X dash parts and all gauges work with transistorized conversion. All instrument cluster warning lights work but interior seat belt interlock system is removed for sake of rugged simplicity. Both doors got rebuilt hinges and carefully adjusted to open and close 'just right'. All the unibody cavities have been cleaned out, pressure washed and rust treatment applied. Whole underside is pressure washed, all rusty spots treated with rust killer and satin black rust preventing paint sprayed on for a preservative sealer. This car sat in total neglect for about twenty years with both windows rolled down. For that reason, and since it was a base model with vinyl floor covering, the front and rear seats were totally rotten and the floor pan underneath the crumbling vinyl floor covering was full of small rust holes. Of course the floor covering is removed and all those holes are carefully treated for rust and patched with fiberglass. This is main reason why there's no carpet; to avoid perpetuating the corrosion-neglect scenario. Plus it's easy to clean. The two front seats came out of a newer Mitsubishi Eclipse -they are comfortable... and match the new theme of the car. After much body work done to repair all embarrassing dents, I spent much time using computer 'paint program' to visualize how to paint the car, to improve it's aesthetics and make it look 'best'. I think the result is good; the color-coordinated hood paint and wrap around side window design truly improves the visual impression to make the car appear to have better proportions. A 'Gremlin man' ornament centered in the front grille makes it look more elegant and distinctive. This car does not have a high quality mirror finish; it is a 'twenty footer'. -Looks great from far away but up close... blemishes everywhere and lots of patina. This is a positive feature though, in my opinion, and makes it an excellent choice for a daily driver, greatly reducing heartbreak if something gets scratched in the grocery store parking lot. Moreover, if the car does get hit in a major collision, it will be no huge loss to the greater AMC community because this one is not a prima-donna trailer queen. As it is now, this car requires no pampering -just 'get in and go'. -Don't even need to check under the hood every time; all the fluids stay full. It's a time warp to drive this car because it has no power assist anything: manual steering and manual brakes. In this regard, one may have to relearn how to drive an antique car but the steering alignment feels 'just right' and it runs, drives and stops the way it should. Basically everything works good, including the windshield squirter, except for it needs a key made to lock the rear hatch. Comes with original stock steel rims and '74 Hornet hubcaps -if desired. No title. Bill of sale only with lots of receipts to prove authenticity.I think it would be wise for any prospective buyer to come see the car in person since opinions about overall quality my vary. We will need to agree that once you buy the car, it's yours, and I am no longer responsible for any attribute pertaining to the car after the sale is made. I want to sell the car to a good home; to someone who will 'take up responsibility' for it, and take good care of it, the best they can, as I have done while it has been in my possession. Since we live on Planet Earth and Murphy's Law is still in effect, the buyer will also be wise to 1) Get a Chilton's Repair Manual 2) Get an AMC Technical Service Manual and 3) Perhaps contact your nearest AMC car club and find a real AMC mechanic to help work on the car if you are not a mechanically inclined person. (no warranty)Please feel free to ask questions, to haggle/barter/negotiate, for more pictures, about how to come see the car, or to reinstall original stock steel rims with hubcaps to reduce price etc. I am a motivated seller.
