1958 BMW IsettaThis is a two owner rust free 1958 BMW Isetta. It has been an Illinois car all of its life, but has spent most of its life in a garage under cover. In the past three years, it was repainted and restored with all necessary repairs addressed along the way. Most of the chrome on the car has been re-chromed or replaced with new. The engine was also gone through by a local mechanic and new gaskets where installed along with several other maintenance items. The engine was bench started before it was installed in the car, but we have not added gas or tried to start in the car as there are still a few things to finish before doing so. The car is currently 90% of the way restored. The original brakes still need to be gone through. The car needs anew throttle and clutch cable along with some finishing touches on the interior. History of the BMW Isetta:BMW first released the BMW Isetta in 1955 and continued production through 1962. BMW purchased the tooling for this car from Renzo Rivolta an Italian Designer who was an early adopter of the Innovative Bubble car. He considered this a fusion between refrigerator, scooter and airplane. It was perfect for the European market with a defining feature being the front opening door to allow parking in tight spaces were user could simply step directly to and from a seated position on to a sidewalk. This car offered excellent fuel economy. It was one of the defining factors that helped BMW recover from WWII. In total, 161,360 where produced, and only about 8,500 where imported to the US. It is believed that only a couple thousand have survived in the US. Terms & ConditionsWe recognize the need for complete transparency when buying/selling vehicles on eBay.
