| 1970 VOLKSWAGEN TRANSPORTER PICKUP Type 2, single-cab, bay-window pickup with rebuilt engine & front disc brakes In the current owner's care since 2012, this VW has always been stored inside and properly looked after. The body is exceptionally clean, with the only rust repair in the battery box area -- even the cab floors are free of rust-throughs (see photo 15). Shortly after his purchase, a complete engine overhaul was undertaken, with new cases, a new crankshaft, new cylinders & pistons, factory con-rods, mild aftermarket camshaft, new CV cylinder heads & new rocker arms. Fed by a new fuel pump, the cylinders inhale through dual Kadron carbs and exhale via a Fat performance exhaust. Displacement is 1776cc.The driveline was also upgraded, with a lightened flywheel, fresh clutch/throwout bearing & Rancho Freeway Flyer transmission. A remote oil filter was added, as well as a heavy-duty pump & large sump. Electrics benefit from an alternator conversion, while a Bosch ignition provides sparks. Approx. mileage since engine rebuild is 6000 mi.The pickup's brake system was also overhauled, with front discs from a later-model Van fitted. Inside the cab, the seats were recovered in factory-style vinyl, and a Blaupunkt CD/stereo was installed. Not shown in the photos but included in the sale is a good used dash top (to replace the sun-cracked original) & steering wheel, a straight rear bumper with mounts and a good selection of NOS rubber parts.
