I’ve owned this 72 K5 Blazer for the last 31 years and now it’s time to let it go. It’s been sitting for the last 8 years or so and I just can’t let it sit in the driveway through another winter. I’m not sure if it should be classified as a restomod or what class it would fit in, as you read on, you’ll see I’ve done a bunch of changes to it throughout the years and I’m sure I’m forgetting some of them.I’ll start with the heart of the beast; the motor is a 2006 LS1 LQ4 that I bought with 5 miles on it out of wrecked Hummer. I installed a Magna Charger 112 on it and it produces about 7 pounds of boost. In addition, it has a Lingenfelter blower cam, LS6 valve springs, 90MM throttle body, SS headers, SS 3” exhaust back to the mufflers and then 2-1/2: to the tail pipes with SS Magnaflow mufflers and is drive by wire. I had it on the dyno when it was done and I believe it was 440/448 if I remember right. That is at the rear wheels in 3rd gear. I’ve put close to 18,000 trouble free miles since I did the swap back in 06. It has all braided SS hoses and fittings wherever I could use them. It has a Griffin radiator with built in oil cooler that’s plumbed into the oil pan. It has a SS fuel tank with an electric fuel pump.The drivetrain is 1 ton with a 14 bolt in the rear with a Detroit locker and a Dana 60 in the front with a Detroit Tru-Trac. Inside the 1 ton running gear are 4.56 gears which are fed from a manual 5 speed NV-4500 transmission and cruises down the freeway at about 2000 rpms. When I put it together, I had the original NP-205 transfer case rebuilt. It has a Hydro boost braking system and 4-wheel disk brakes, it has a super beefy driveline with CV joints at both ends and a disk brake on it to use as a parking brake.The stand-alone wiring harness was from Speartech and ties into the existing electrical system. All the heavy draw items have all been put on relays to take advantage of the high output alternator of the LS1. All the gauges inside are Autometer and they all fit in the stock dash bezel. It has a custom tune and 2 computers; I did all the tuning myself with EFI Live and the custom Roadrunner computer. It has a AF monitor inside that I used to log all of the AF mixtures to give it the perfect tune. I made several trips to MT from WA state in it and never had any issues. It has Hella headlights to light up the dark roads at night.The paint on it is 20 years old and when it was done, I had the rockers replaced. The pictures show all the rust spots that I can find, you can see the bubbles behind both doors, a very small one on the driver’s door and a spot above the rear passenger fender where the bondo is cracked out and the bottoms of the kick panels on the inside. It also sports a cowl induction hood and the correct ram horn tow hooks for 72. It’s a factory AC body but isn’t hooked up, that was one thing that was on my list I never got to. It also has a hide a hitch behind the license plate it you want/need to tow someone out. It sits on TSL Super Swampers that are 35x12.5x17 that are on Weld Wheels.
