This Ford Tudor sedan has undergone a meticulous and exacting multi-year restoration to factory new condition. Authentic in every respect, the car is equipped with the original and renewed powertrain —Ford’s Flathead 85 hp V8, three-speed column shift transmission, and factory differential. The time and attention lavished on this restoration is impressive — down to the smallest screw, no detail has been overlooked. The car even rolls on Ford emblem tires. The six-year restoration, performed by Superior Auto Body of Gresham, OR, involved complete body-off-frame disassembly and renewal or replacement of every component and fastener on the car. The glossy black finish is spectacular and smooth as glass, the black powder-coated frame shows no previous signs of pitting and the restoration photos indicate a rust-free subject car. Photos show that the engine and transmission were removed, stripped, prepped, painted and detailed, with all ancillaries renewed. The odometer records 49,9XX miles, with the restoration beginning at 42XXX miles. Though we can’t confirm the actual miles, we think because of the Ford’s complete lack of rust and that the engine and transmission apparently didn’t require a rebuild, that the odometer could be accurate. The interior is a place of style, comfort and precision upholstery work, with seats and door panels in striped gray-toned broadcloth fabric, a painted steel dash in brown/maroon with dual ashtray doors at each side, restored gauges, factory wood-grained trim at the windows, plush light-gray wool carpets, and original-style windlace at the doors. Single driver’s sunvisor, as per this model, with immaculate headliner and also Included is a removable armrest in matching broadcloth. The fully restored trunk contains the spare wheel and Ford tire, a few spare parts, and a quality car cover. The engine bay is another example of the meticulous concentration on every detail and presents as a showroom example of the model, circa 1940, with all the renewed original factory components, harness looms, coded wiring, correctly stamped factory hoses and period decals. The underside, as the numerous photos will attest to, is as clean as the rest of the car, with solid and shiny floor panels and sills, and stainless steel brakes and lines, all free of any rust or corrosion. With a production date of 1939, this 40 Tudor has several earlier model features. The only non-factory items in place are the electronic ignition, the battery, a set of Red’s Headers and dual mufflers for a mellow exhaust note, and in consideration of occupant safety, modern seatbelts front and rear. This Ford’s history before current ownership is unknown, with the widow of the former owner since 2000 now offering the car. All receipts are not currently available, but she estimates that overall, some $60k may have been spent on the restoration. Pages of photos dated to the stages of the rebuild help document the comprehensive restoration, along with long lists of parts and labor from Superior.
