We do not see any flaws in the paint, and it is very smooth. (See pictures) * We have not been able to find even a pin head size nick anywhere, with the only exception being a very slight little almost unnoticeable flaw near the base of the antenna. (See pictures) * The owner had reminded us that it was after the car was taken down to bare metal, the complete body was primed with Vara Prime with zinc oxide made by Dupont. * You do see a bit of break in the paint on the edge between the exterior, and the door jams that does show slightly. (See pictures) This is because you have to shoot the jams, and other parts separate because you can’t let this product tack. Body- * Nothing built in the 50’s was even close to laser straight, but we would say that this car is most likely more correctly straight than the day that it was produced new. So obvious on the black where everything shows it was beautifully prepared before the paint was applied. * The fits around the doors, trunk, and hood all seem very uniform with the only exception being the right rear corner of the hood could probably use adjusting down just a touch. * We do not see any dents, or creases anywhere on the body. * The underside of the body has the product PPG- DP74 epoxy primer and sealer applied. * There is a rear bumper mounting panel in the trunk floor (at the very back edge) that was completely replaced during the restoration as well. Magnetic Paint Gauge- * We took at least 2 sample readings on each panel of the car, and verified that all body panels are steel. We also checked closely along the lower quarters, fenders, and doors. I again found present of steel in all area. * In measuring the paint on the hood, trunk, and top areas its pretty consistently in the 15 mil range plus or minus 3 in each direction. Both sides front to back where closer to 20 mils range(plus or minus 2). * This is common with a custom professional paint application, and often the sides are heavier in materials to make them nice and straight. * We don’t have an indication of any repairs other than the owner told us that the left quarter had some rust issues at the bottom and was completely replaced with a donor quarter panel from out west. (See pics) Bright Work- * After carefully inspecting the vehicle it appears that all the bright work is fastened to the car, as it is supposed to be and is secure in its proper place. * The stainless pieces are all highly buffed, and of a very high reflective quality, and all that is chrome appears flawless. We all know that the bright work on the 55’s are truly a work of art, and when they are in this condition you can really appreciate it. * Being extremely critical there is the slightest little dimple in the chrome above the passengers vent window, and a couple of light pits on the rear taillight bezel. (See pictures) Glass-* The glass was all replaced with new during the restoration. * There is no identification on the glass. * There are no flaws or damage to the glass at all, and it all looks like new or almost new glass. * The front windshield is a tinted laminated glass, with about a 6 inch darker band at the top. * It appears that the door glass, side glass, and the rear glass are also tinted tempered glass, as well as each of those side glass have an etched orange flame design in each. (See pictures) * We have not even been able to find a pin head size nick in the windshield. * The glass is extremely clear with no discoloring, delamination, bulls-eyes, cracks, wiper marks, or scratches that we can observe. Interior- * The interior was all custom done, and shows no wear. * The headliner is of a vinyl design (same material as seats) which is pulled nice and tight, and we see no seam separation. * It does not have sun visors installed, but a reminder it does have that dark strip at the top of the windshield(original sun visors go with car). * The seats are of a custom simulated leather material. It has much of the look, and feel of leather including the creases, but with the better wear characteristics of vinyl. * The seats, door panels, and carpet show virtually no wear. * The dash has been beautifully done with the coloring of the dash matching the exterior of the car. If you look at all the bright work on the dash, its been beautifully detailed with each item looking like new. * The carpet is all in good condition, and has always been covered by the mats. * The gauge (odometer) is very clear, as are the gauges on the post. (See pictures) * Radio delete * The only issue we where able to find is a tiny tear on the beading, and the bottom edge near the drivers seat adjustment. (See pictures) Trunk- * You can see by the pictures that the trunk is very nicely painted, and finished off with a correct fitting rubber mat. * The car does not have a spare, or a jack with it. The owner indicated that he put a larger tire on the back, but body is not tubbed so tires would actually need to be deflated to be remove from the car. He figured he would just have the car moved by flatbed if necessary. In other words the front or rear tire replacement would not fit in the wheel well. Tires and Wheels- * Goodrich front and rear * The tires do not show any outside damage and the “BOYDS” rims all appear very shiny with no defects in the finish. The only exception being is that the right front one has a few little nicks. Its barely noticeable on the very outside of the rim where it meets the tire. (See picture) * Left front- 205-70-15 10/32 Tread remaining * Right front- 205-70-15 10/32 Tread remaining * Left rear- 235-70-15 11/32 Tread remaining * Right rear- 235-70-15 11/32 Tread remaining Engine and Transmission- * A look at the engine compartment shows the attention to detail that went into this build. * You will see the headers, the spark plug wires the finned aluminum valve covers, the aluminum designed spark plug cover matching the flames in the windows. You will see the new wiring is apparent, and the fully in-closed Optima battery is certainly attractive. You can see the paint finish on the chassis, and suspension components. The over sized aluminum radiator, and electric fan, as well as the black tank which is a vacuum storage tank. Rear End- The rear end is believed to be original. It was completely gone through and rebuilt with new bearing and seals by Massillon Transmission Chassis- * The frame is a California seamless frame produced by GM. The frame was sand blasted, and then Vara primed (entire body, frame, underside, outside panels, floors and dash) than painted with Imron paint. * The car has disc brakes in the front, and drums in the rear. * The quality of the chassis restoration is clear, and we do not see any rust perforation on the chassis or the floor pans.(See pictures) * You can see all the new hardware (nuts and bolts) that was installed. * The frame has a beautiful gloss black finish that is smooth, and shiny. The inner fender wells, and the bumpers have a shiny gloss black with a more textured appearance. (See pictures) * You can see it is a detailed build. Thought it does have some dust on it, it could be cleaned and detailed and brought back to its restored condition with very little effort. * It has a dual Flowmaster exhaust coming out of the headers with real dual all the way to the back, including new nuts, bolts, and mounts. * You can see that the transmission, and engine mounts from the frame are all painted the same. There are maybe just a few spots of surface rust. (See pictures) * There maybe a slight amount of seepage from the rear, and front main. The pan gasket all looks nice and dry. The back of the transmission, and rear end is slightly damp, but without any dripping. * It has two inch drop spinals in the front, and it is two inches lower than stock also in the rear. Mechanical - * High and low headlight beams work* Front left and right blinkers work* Back left and right blinkers work* No horn* Four ways work front and back* Taillights work* License plate light works* Speedometer works* Tachometer works* Oil pressure works and runs from 35 to 50* Temperature gauge works* Parking brake works* Ignition switch works* Fan works on the 2 speeds (high and low)* Heater lever works* Defrost works* Temperature control adjusts* Kill switch under dash works* Lighter works* No knowledge if clock works* Keys work in ignition, doors, and trunk* Key on left door is temperamental at times but it works some of the time, might just need lubricated* Rear windows and vents work – per owner Test Drive- Chad rode with the owner for several miles, and then Chad drove for several miles coming back. Engine starts easily, and runs very smoothly. You have to pump it a couple of times when cold as it does not have a choke set up. Upon acceleration the engine runs and pulls well. The clutch operation all appears to be correct. The shifting of all 4 gears, reverse, and both up shifting and down shifting all works extremely smooth without any interference. Upon stopping the disc brakes stop it well, and it does not seem to pull. The steering works good, it has a little typical wander as it is a gear box and not a rack, but over all a very easy, simple, and nice car to drive.
