Perhaps fortunately for Corvette, it was Carroll Shelby's two-seat Cobra, which featured its own 427 cubic inch V8 engine that prompted the change in opinion. This original survivor 1966 Big Block Corvette Coupe was ordered with performance in mind and is equipped with the highly desirable optional L72 427 V8 and has been driven a mere 36K miles in its lifetime. Producing a thundering 425 horsepower this Sting Ray Corvette is ready for any challenge. The numbers-matching big block engine is mated to the matching Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission and puts the power to the pavement compliments of the original 4.11 ratio posi-traction rear axle. Finished in its original code-976 Nassau Blue paint that was applied at the factory, the coupe has its original black vinyl standard interior which features Soft Ray tinted glass, a Teakwood steering wheel and a Delco AM/FM radio. Fitted with period-correct Goodyear Speedway Blue Streak tires it comes with extensive documentation that includes the original Protect-O-Plate as well as the original Payment Coupon Book from 1966 along with additional past ownership paperwork. The Sting Ray is a recipient of numerous awards including 4 NCRS Top Flight Awards and most meaningfully the Corvette earned the prestigious NCRS 5-Star Chevrolet Bowtie Award bestowed to only the most original unrestored cars that are successfully judged and voted to be historically significant in any or more of four areas (Interior, Exterior, Mechanical and Chassis). This tremendous time capsule is in excellent running order and ready for its next owner!
