1970 Cadillac ELDORADO 1970 CADILLAC ELDORADO ONLY 26,818 ORIGINAL MILES SHOW CAR Vehicle Overview The 1970 Cadillac Eldorado marked the end of perhaps the most storied periods in the history of GM. The innovative designs and unrestrained power of the 60's would grind to a halt as the bloated excess of the late mid to late 70's and the suffocating burdens of pollution control choked the life out of Detroit's most athletic and design-forward cars of that era. Behind its devilishly good looks, the 1970 Eldorado houses a high-compression 400 horse power engine generated a heart-stopping 550 foot pounds of torque that will catapult this 4,630 pound bad-boy-in-a-tuxedo from 0-60 in 7.8 seconds. Having shed a few hundred pounds from its 67-69 predecessors, the 1970 Eldorado was faster than a stock Corvette off the line. And, in spite of its huge power and weight displacement on the front-wheel drivetrain, you could smoke the tires from a dead stop and squeak them through first and second gear. Cadillac's gentlemen's rocket ship was said to "have the quiet manners of a country club gentleman with the soul of a rock star." The world's finest personal luxury car without conjecture was the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado for 1970. Long, low-slung and unmistakably the "Standard of the World." The exciting news for the 1970 Eldorado was the all-new 8.2 liter 500 CID 16-valve OHV V8 engine. It was the largest engine to power a passenger production car in the world. This massively powerful V8 produced an astounding 400 hp @ 4,400 rpm packing the prolific punch with 746 Nm of peak torque @ 3,000 rpm. The engine was equipped with a Rochester 4MV 4-bbl down-draft Quadrajet carburetor with equalized manifold, mechanical fuel pump, dry-type air filter, improved automatic choke, and a controlled combustion system to reduce exhaust hydrocarbons. This formidable V8 sprinted to a top speed of 126 mph. It did the 1/4 mile @ 89 mph in 15.6 seconds. The engine was mated to GM's Turbo Hydra-Matic THM 425 3-speed automatic transmission. What a way to travel Cadillac style in the spirited seventies. There is debate about which of the 1967-1970 models was the fairest of them all, but my vote goes to the last of the breed. It's clean front grill and exposed headlamps gave it a crispness and fresh design that perfectly framed the car's angular design and was the perfect exclamation point nearing the end of Bill Mitchell's venerable career and indelible impression on the automotive world. This car is unique in many ways. With 23,842 produced in 1970, only a handful were produced with the special vinyl top delete. And although the "halo top" was an option, very few opted out and GM made the vinyl top pretty much standard fare on the Eldorado's final year of the H-body. The vinyl top delete causes the eye to caress the razor sharp lines of the Eldorado without interruption and gives it a crisp, clean stance that would rival any design of the modern era. This car doubles down on it's startched, crisp good looks and unique lines with a special order Byzantine Gold (54) finish with a beige divan cloth interior (so much better than leather) that still has the subtle shine that created an unmistakable luster from any point of view. Most Eldorado's are predictably finished in white or black, but this one simply jumps out at you when you see it, and the overall impression is just dazzling. So much so that it was selected as a "brochure car" by Cadillac that accompanies the car. The original owner represents there was some hood paintwork caused by a scratch several decades ago, but the vast majority of the paint retains an eye popping luster and is nearly flawless, despite having just celebrated its 50th birthday. Open the door to "Another World" inside the 1970 Fleetwood Eldorado. Flat floors provided more room to the already spacious ambience. The youthful sportiness of its interior with the comfort of deep-seated luxury alerted one to the fact that this was no ordinary car. It was purposefully built to be the finest personal luxury car in the world. When you step up to this car, your eyes are glued to the unique combination and the shimmering good looks of it's beautifully preserved finish. The chrome is gleaming and untouched from the factory, without any pitting or hazing-both inside and out and the dash has zero cracking or dryness so common to this model. Another of the telltale signs of a true original is the chroming around the instrument clusters. Notice how precise and fresh each outline looks, which is a tell of how correctly the car has been stored and the true originality of a 26,000 mile car. The mirrors, door handles and switches are pristine and the power options work precisely as they should and the doors shut effortlessly, like a bank vault, with the touch of a finger. Tolerances throughout are absolutely perfect and precise. The lamps are fresh, bright and the rearview mirror break indicator lights work as well. No dimples in the bumpers or creases anywhere creates a car that honestly looks like what you might have found on a Cadillac certified pre-owned lot in 1971 or 1972. This car is a no-excuses, impossible to replace car, and is perhaps the lowest mile all-original example in existence today. It starts with a single click, roars to life and absolutely screams when you push it or floats when you ask it. It is a magnet for onlookers, young and old alike and will push any Phantom or Ferrari out of position one at the valet stand. Please read my feedback and call Jay for your best.
