CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
1949 Willys station wagon four-wheel-drive powered by a small block 301 Chevy engine. The engine is modified with headers, a Holly four barrel carburetor on an Edelbrock manifold. The drive train is the original manual three speed transmission with transfer case and low and high range. The suspension has been lifted and aftermarket steel wheels and all-terrain tires installed. There is a matching spare with brand-new tire and rim and exterior mounting bracket included but not shown in the photographs. (Originally the spare tire was mounted inside). The rear bumper is after-market heavy-duty meant for towing a trailer. An air scoop has been added on the right side of the hood to augment flow to the heater. (Never used in Hawaii). This vehicle has been sitting in a shed for the last 32 years. It was rarely taken out for a drive down a dirt road. Last time it was driven was in 2003 for a photography session for a Crazy Shirts T-shirt catalog, where it was photographed next to the Waimea Canyon on the island of Kauai. It was recently brought back to Oahu, cleaned up and some minor repairs done. The underside was power washed, primered and painted. The roof gutter on the right side had rusted out. That area has been temporarily patched with strips of aluminum pop riveted in place.New mufflers were installed. There is a high lift jack mounted inside. This Willys is now looking good and running strong. It has the classic looks of the World War II Jeep, unlike the later models that had chrome trim was added. The interior is done in saddle brown vinyl that color coordinates well with the beige paint. The original gauges and dash panel are there but not hooked up. There’s an additional set of gauges mounted behind the steering wheel that are completely functional. It is a driver, not a show queen. It is not a fresh and complete restoration. The body is straight. The paint job is okay but not glossy. The right wind wing is cracked. There is no power steering so parallel parking requires some muscle. The original gearing is low range so be careful stepping on the gas to the Chevy motor as this thing will leap, but top speed might be limited to around 70 mph. (I have never pushed it to find out the limit).Included is an original sales brochure, a couple of old advertisements, the owner’s manual, parts manual, repair manual, etc.. The title is free and clear. It is not been registered on the road for about 18 years so back registration fees would be required in Hawaii.Shipping: I can get the Willys to Matson Freight Company. They charge approximately $1500 for delivery to California, Los Angeles or Oakland.
