This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera was purchased from the third owner in 2012, and currently has 52,000 original miles. Sold new at McLures Lincoln Mercury in Anaheim California, and has never been outside of California's dry moderate climate except for its Italian origin in 1972. ALL numbers are correct as per the Marti Report, motor, chassis, and ZF transaxle numbers all match. The interior is original from new, dash, seats, door panels, console, headliner, steering wheel, gauges, radio… and in exceptional condition! The exterior color was red from the factory and this car is the exact and correct shade of red confirmed by the color sample provided by the DeTomaso factory in Italy. The paint is gorgeous on this beautiful rust free body. Exterior chrome & stainless are excellent condition, as well as the rubber and weather stripping trim. The 351 Cleveland Super Cobra Jet runs strong and tight with all original components down to the air cleaner. The original carburetor was restored and the engine heads freshened by race engine builder, Dave's performance. The engine compartment is detailed nicely as original. New Bridgestone tires mounted on Wilkinson reproduction 17” front & 18” rear wheels continue an authentic look, but provide performance handling characteristics. Wilkinson was granted permission by the DeTomaso factory to re-design the original Campagnolo wheel pattern into 17” & 18” rims. The original 15” Goodyear Arriva tires are mounted on the original Campagnolo wheels and are a great addition for displaying the Pantera at a Concours. Headlamp motors and assemblies along with window motors and assemblies were replaced/rebuilt at Panteras by Wilkinson, and function properly. A new Fluidyne radiator with lay down kit and sucker fans along with an Edlebrock high output water pump were purchased from Wilkinson and installed. Original radiator components come with the car. A new clutch assembly, fly wheel, dual disc manufactured by McCleod Racing and purchased through Wilkinson were installed. New heater hoses were replaced in the cabin and throughout. All maintenance is current and has been performed in a “preventative” manner. Original tool kit, technical service manual & tub accompany the car. This car is an extremely low maintenance example and is California smog exempt.Unique qualities of a July 1972 built Pantera: This was the end of production of the chrome bumper Pantera. At this time Ford provided De Tomaso the 351 Cleveland Super Cobra Jet for the power plant. This segment of production also benefitted from the upgraded ZF transaxle, not yet available on the earlier produced cars. During these last few months of manufacturing the chrome bumper cars, DeTomaso's build quality was at its highest level since the inception of the Pantera.#3939 drives wonderfully, sounds amazing, and is a seductive sight! A splendid blend of well preserved original condition and quality restoration. Truly a remarkable example of a blue chip investment grade car to show and drive well into the future. |
