1968 Mustang FastbackFor Sale is this custom built 1968 Mustang fastback, serialnumber 8R01j161026. Powered by a Roush built 588 cubic inch V8 no expense hasbeen spared in the build of this fabulous automobile. It is owned by my friendand I am helping him sell the car. The Mustang began it’s existence as a Mustang coupe. It wasdecided to heavily modify the car along the lines of the famous Mustang in themovie “Gone In 60 Seconds”.The car was totally dismantled and the coupe was transformedinto a fastback. The factory floors were removed and custom floor pans werebuilt. The firewall and shock towers were removed to be replaced by customsheet metal as this unibody car became abody/frame car. A custom frame was fabricated out of 2” x 3” tube steel andwelded together using steel gusset plates where additional strength was needed.We have photos of this work. The frame is super strong. The rear of the car wasmodified so that larger tires might be fitted. The frame was powder coatedbefore the body was put back on the frame. The body was coated with Epoxyprimer. One of the most respected body shops in the South, Capital Body Shop,Ridgeland, Ms did the body and paint work. They spent more that 880 hoursworking on this body. The body work and paint are exceptional. Major purchasesof parts were made, many through Mustangs Unlimited for items such as theglass, power windows, front and rear valances, bumpers, window regulators, etcand etc. One purchase had over 100 items and cost more than $7400. Like thebody the interior of the car is excellent. The front seats are by Procar. Thesteering column is a tilt unit by Flaming River with a Grant steering wheel.Instruments are by JME with an electronic speedometer. The A/C unit is from OldAir Products. The rear seat folds down 9a custom made unit that looks stock).Most of the interior items such as carpet, headliner, door panels were new atthe time of the restoration of this vehicle (2010- 2011). The new wiringharness was by American Auto Wire. The radio is an alpine unit with6.5 coax 2way speakers and digital amplifier. A car alarm is part of that package whichcost more than $1700. The Mustang is powered by a Roush Performance Products built588CI V8. The engine has a 4 bolt iron block with Roush FRT aluminum heads.There is a 870CFM Holley carb, Edelbrock single plane intake, hydraulic rollercam, roller rockers, 4340 forged crankshaft, 4340 h Beam rods, forged pistons,SFI steel flywheel with steelbellhousing. There is an 8 quart front sump oil pan. The front serpentine beltdrive unit is by Billet Specialties and is their Tru Trac FEAD System. Theengine was machined, balanced, assembled and dyno tested by Roush. Dyno resultswere 683 horsepower and 680 Ft Lbs of torque. The cost of this engine andtransmission (Tremec TKO-500/600 5 speed manual ) was $25815. Headers are byFord Powertrain and are ceramic coated. The exhaust system is a 2.5” system byFlowMaster. To say the car sounds good is an understatement. The stock suspension is long gone replaced by 13’ 10 wayadjustable coil over shocks front and rear; tubular upper and lower controlarms; 4 link rear suspension. The steering is a rack and pinion unit by FlamingRiver. Steering is power assisted . Brakes are 4 wheel discs by Wilwood as arethe front spindles and the master cylinder. Wheels are 17”. The tires areGoodyear Eagle EAG F1 245/45 ZR17/SL. The radiator is a 4 row Griffin unit andthe dual cooling fans are by Spal. The rear end is FAB 9 unit with a Mosher3.25 positive tracking 3rd member and Strange 31 spline axels. Thereis a 12” McLeod clutch and pressure plate and McLeod hydraulic throw out bearing. This custom Mustang is beautiful, powerful, dependable and ablast to drive. We have all of the receipts incurred in the build of this car(which now has 5800 miles on it). The cost of the body and paint work and theparts purchased exceed $126000 and this is before any labor charges are figuredin. As stated no expense was spared in making the car what you see in thesephotographs.
