I can assist with financing and transport as needed. On 9-19-61 Pontiac issued a press release stating, “Pontiac Announces Spectacular New Grand Prix Model”. This 1962 classic is what they were referring to, combining style and performance into a splendid package. It is also a wonderful example of chief engineer John Delorean’s talent. This example was built at the South Gate, CA plant in April 1962. It remained in California until 2019 which kept the car free of any rust problems. Be sure to look at the underside and floor pictures; it is hard to find old cars in this condition! The body also looks great and was repainted in its original Cameo Ivory in 2020. Note this was the only repaint the car has ever seen. The engine is Pontiac’s venerable 389 which has been converted from its original Rochester 4-barrel carburetor (included) to an Edelbrock Performer with electric choke. The automatic transmission is the original 3-speed Roto Hydramatic that was just removed and re-sealed. The power steering and power brakes are very effective, while the suspension is smooth without any squeaks. This car also has Pontiac’s unique 8-lug wheels, including the spare. The Grand Prix interior distinguishes this model from its Catalina and Bonneville brethren. This one has been redone in its original red color. The bucket seats flank a center console with tachometer and storage bin, while the rear seat has a folding armrest and center speaker. Note the special Grand Prix steering wheel and horn button. Two vintage aftermarket gauges are mounted under the dash which does have a few cracks on top (replacements are not available). The instruments, lights, wipers, and horn all work properly. So does the Wonderbar radio and the heater/defroster. The 1962 Grand Prix represents a one-year-only design that still looks great almost 60 years later. This example really brings it all together with excellent colors and a solid foundation, not to mention a very comfortable ride that anyone can enjoy.
