CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
1965 Mustang fastback with 289, power steering, C4, and 2 barrel carb. It has been in my family for over 25 years. I'm the car's second owner. Purchased from my neighbor one block away who was the original owner that bought it in July 1965 (see Aug 1965 picture); a sweet older lady (true and not a cliche). The car was not abused by the first owner or me.I have all the original purchase paperwork from 1965; dealer invoice, copy of original title and envelope from the state, owner's manual, build sheets from under the seat, various other paperwork, original jack, and keys; all will stay with the car. When I purchased the car it had 52,000 miles and was completely untouched as far as modifications, etc. The mechanicals were good on the car and the steering gear box was still tight (my last mustang had 40 degrees of dead slash on 100K+ miles). The car spent its first 30 years under a house car port which put rust on the car out proportioned to the its miles, and was all fixed during restoration. The car was never in any accidents. All glass is original and demonstrates low milage as the windshield has not been sand-blasted from miles of driving. I did a careful novice restoration taking my time over the first 12 of the 25 years I've owned the car:Front and rear left side floors and toe board replaced, re-skined one door, front fenders dipped to remove all rust, door bottoms are rock solid, two new trunk drop-offs, two rear wheel quarter patches, new carpet, dash instrument cluster (seats covers and headliner are original as are all interior panels), new inner fender with a new battery tray on top, new bumpers, new door handles, taillight bezels, parking lights. All instrumentation and lights work. New gas tank, gas lines, break lines, power steering control valve was rebuild, new steering hoses, new lower control arms and balls, new steering linkage, new leaf springs. I had the cowl vent open and patched the air cans as best as possible (ford did not paint the inside of any mustang cowl, smart) Tires are bias US Royal as original with great tread. Replaced the timing chain just to be safe, water pump, radiator, and the coil because it failed (yellow top). The values were adjusted and nothing else was done to the motor since milage was so low. New exhaust pipe and muffler. Radio is an original working AM but was rebuilt to also be a hidden FM radio. I have the original AM radio somewhere. New heater core. There's a lot more I did to it that I can't remember. My goal was to keep it 100% stock and as from the factory, based on the Mustang Club of America judge specs to get all finishes as close to factory as possible. Beyond very superficial, I will say too that the car has zero rust and none lurking under the paint or crazy body filler. Frame rails are solid. Medal work shown in one of the pictures. The car now has about 56,000 miles on it (added 3,000 miles in my 25+ years). The car has not seen a drop of rain since I bought it. I drive it just enough to keep it loose. There are no oil leaks from the motor or transmission. It starts on the first turn and no blue smoke. It drives strong and handles like it's 1965.The car is a real beauty but now some full disclosure as I do not want anybody to think I was not completely forthright about what it is you may buy. I'm not knocking the car as overall it's really great, I just want to ensure clarity:* Restoration work noted above was finished about 10-years ago. The pictures are current. I have other pictures if there's a certain area you want to see.* The car is a driver. As it sits the body gaps are not perfect. The car was repainted silver blue as original. The body surfaces are not perfect as there is some waviness in the side panels if inspected at a certain angle, but the color is somewhat forgiving. Paint is the only thing I didn't do myself but it has held up very well due to the garage. * There are a few dings in the car. The biggest one is the size of a half dollar on the edge of the trunk lid and the paint is not broken and might be able to be bumped out. There are a few other very small digs. There are a few small chips as well. The rear end panel (the one where the gas cap is) is a little wavy; I haven't had it tweaked to straighten. A good bogyman could probably fix it easily.* The cowl was opened to fix rust which leaked water and did on to the floors I'm sure before the restoration. After the resto I did not attempt to see if it's now water tight as I didn't want to risk water on the carpet. Car hasn't been in rain in 25 years to know either. Again, I don't know, it could be ok. I'm continually surprised on other Mustang listings I see on eBay that this real issue is almost never disclosed. * The floor boards were all welded in with a mig welder and they're solid (see picture), but it was a little more of an overlap than a butt weld. The undercarriage is clean. * The right side rear end axel bearing is shot and leaking rearend oil on the brake backer plate and onto the back side of the tire. It makes a once-a-round sound especially when cornering. It needs to be fixed first thing.* The breaks lately require a little more pressure than usual to stop the car. I'm not sure what's up with that as I haven't pulled any of the drums to see. New break cylinders, new lines, and master cylinder rebuilt when the car was restored. Pads as well that should still be fine with their 3,000 miles.* Steering wheel is a little off center, but the car absolutely goes straight and does not drift or pull. * Headliner has no tears or holes. It's light blue and original but it's stained from the prior owners smoking. I cleaned off some of it.* Seats, covers, and seat belts are untouched originals with no tears or seam problems. There is a bit of a musty smell usually after the car has been closed up for a week that I believe is due to the original seat padding.* One of the turn signals doesn't always return afterwards. I replaced the plastic trigger awhile ago so not sure what's up with that.* The gas gauge needle seems to lag a bit closer to E than it really is. The fuel sender device was new 10 years ago.Hopefully you appreciate that I've disclosed as much as I'm aware of. I see a lot of ads where you'd have to go on faith outside of anything obvious. But keep in mind that 55 year old cars don't come with any warranties underwritten by me.And feel free to send me any questions. Clean PA title.
