1937 DODGE MODEL D5 BUSINESS COUPEThis 1937 Dodge Coupe is a rea; gem with an interesting history. This car has been in owned by the same family since purchased new in 1937. I bought it last December from the grandson of the original owner here in Utah. He told me that his grandfather flew from Salt Lake to a trade show in Chicago in 1937 just to buy this particular car and then drove it back to Orem, Utah. It remained in Orem up until December of last year and is now in Santa Clara. Utah. It was his Grandfathers pride and joy, then his fathers, and then his. It has been well loved and maintained over the years as the pictures show. I have owned several Dodge Coupes myself over the past 30 years but I have never run across one this original and this complete. If you have restored one yourself then you know how tough it is to find the correct badges, chrome strips, head lights, etc. This one is just all there and everything works to my amazement. From the 6 volt head lights with their original reflectors to the tail lights with their original lenses. The dual horns to the heater core, Vacuum windshield wipers to the original mohair upholstery. The front windshield cranks out smoothly and even the dame light works. This is just a gem. The original paint was a gray blue as (shown in one of the pictures of a different coupe) but that got painted over in black and a radio was added in the 1975. I have not messed with the radio but I left it and the vintage antennae installed for the new owner. What I know it needs: Back tires. They are old and cracked but hold air fine. The gas gauge is not reliable. Maybe just clean up the wire contacts. The running boards need new rubber installed.Paint is cracked and chipped in spots but decent overall. There are a battle scares but nothing serious and stuff like fender welt and rubber hoses could use freshened up. I put in a new 6volt battery a couple months back.Other than that this is a smooth running, smooth shifting , and fun to cruise little coupe. Fire it up and drive it as is or fully restore it to factory specs. At least you won't have to spend years tracking down parts. I just hope your intent would not be to chop it up and make a street rod out of it. It has survived this long intact and could go another 100 years with the right owners I would bet. Any questions let me know and I will answer them promptly. |
