1964 Porsche 356 Coupe Project ---Matching Numbers---Chassis # 216336Engine #711786Here we have a 356C Coupe that was originally sold through the famed Brumos Porsche dealership. The original owner was a priest at St. Luke's Church in Atlanta, Georgia. We found the car in Virginia where it looks like it was last on the road in 1987, per the sticker on the license plate. This car was pretty special when it left the Factory in 1964. The color was special order Black, Paint Code 6413. Porsche did not like to paint cars black and would normally only do it on request, so a Factory Black 356 is a rare bird. What also makes this car very special today is that it retains so many of its original components like the engine (serial #711786) and gearbox (serial #74337). It even has the original keys, including the key for the anti-theft shifter lock! The car has new floors and a new battery box, so a lot of the heavy lifting of the restoration is done. There will still be rust repair to tackle but the work done will give you a really good head start on the restoration. All the engine, gearbox, paint codes, and key codes can be verified on the scan of the original Porsche Factory Kardex that is in the pictures. The Kardex also notes the special order paint, listed as Sonderlackierung. The 356C was the finest 356 to drive with its refined disc brakes, and given the level of originality and special nature of this car, it's the one you should really consider if you're thinking of a 356 for restoration. Cars retaining this many of their original components are getting few and far between. A rare original black 356 stands out in even the thickest crowd of vintage Porsches.
