1965 Scout 80Champagne EditionOverdrive, twin stick transfer case, manual choke, hand throttle. It’s time to pass along my belovedScout to someone for a new chapter. I have owned this little gem for 11 years, lots of fun and lots of memories. Over the years, I have done work inprogress-type upgrades. The 152 4cyl runs strong and the 3 speed shifts good, and with the overdrive it is more versatile. Mind you , this is not a modernoverdrive so it is very mechanical and simple, if you will. 4WD works ofcourse, this thing is a tractor! Mileage is unknown as the odometerwas not working when I got it and I put a NOS unit in so I could get an idea ofrange since the fuel gauges never worked either. I would just go back and forthon the two 11 gallon tanks. Run out of gas on one tank, switch over to theother, that kinda thing…Previous owner believed it has less than 50Kmiles on it as the odo went out around 42K and he hadn't driven it much afterthat. I replaced it with a NOS oem speedo that had zero miles and now it shows1,611 miles. The headlights both blewsimultaneously when my son decided to install a PepBoys type aaahoogah horn andI don’t know what he did but he clearly didn’t know what he was doing so youwill need to install two new sealed beam units if you want headlights. We neverdrove it at night so we left it alone. Blinkers, taillights, horn, etc. allwork fine. There is no cancer type rust anywhere, purely surface type as can be expected. The drivers side floor just startedsurface rust as I usually kept her in the garage and this last winter I had tostore in the driveway so the moisture in the air was there to start doing it’sthing. Very minor indeed. There is a slight dent of the driver rear corner anda scratch along the passenger side front quarter panel and through the door. Asfor the paint,it is old and patina makes it look cool from a distance, but byno means new and fresh. It looked too cool for me to re-paint. But that’s justme. There is a manual choke and a manual hand throttle on the dash, these areoriginal.I abandoned the old glass bowl fuelpump and installed an electric fuel pump under the driver seat on the frame. There is an on/off switch under the dash for that. In doing so, I had to blockoff the fuel pump with a billet plate from ihpartsamerica dot com and therebylost the vacuum for the wipers since that came from there. So I obtained a setof electric wipers that are correct for the old scouts with the reverse motors.Never installed them, they are included but you will have to install. I had theprofessional install of the CPT suspension with Bilstein shocks from the crewat ihpartsamerica in Grass Valley, CA and billet gas cap assemblies (theoriginals leaked all over the sides whenever you turned a corner). 15x8 MickeyThompson Classic wheels(the originals) with older Dunlop Mud Rover 31x10.50R15LT tires that are in decent shape. I have the rear bench seat in storage andan extra windshield frame that I found for the latch mechanism for when thewindshield is folded down, which is missing on the current windshield frame. The picture with the top off is older, before the scratch on the right side andbefore I removed the original vacuum wipers. I put in an old manual wind clockunder the dash which is from a WWII Russian Tank. Stereo is one of those newermodern classic AM/FM quartz units from vintage autosounds or one of thoseoutfits with some slimline box speakers under the seats that need to be hookedup.I know I am forgetting some things so feel free to call withquestions7758486963 Tim. I can work with you on coordinating pick-up from yourshipper and we can discuss payment via telephone after the auction, but paymentwill be due within 7 days. This old girl is clean, straight and solid. Sure sheneeds some minor things perhaps, but she is all there. Clean Nevada title in myname in hand.If you arenot aware, these 4 banger engines are not fast, they are not freeway flyers.Theyare good for getting you around town or off-roading, and Parades! If you want amodern freeway cruiser, you should get something else. |
