Im really looking to do a trade/partial trade for an unrestored survivor 62 Impala Convertible. Has to be rust free and original paint. This 61 is by no means perfect, but is one of the nicest original ones that I have seen that still has all original sheet metal including the quarter panels. The worst part of the car is the right quarter panel. When I bought the car, it was bare metal in front of the right rear tire. There was dent in that spot and it was pulled out with a stud gun and they did not prep it correctly, which is why the paint came off. I got some black paint and brushed on some paint to prevent it from rusting. I then sanded the black paint down and sprayed some grey primer over it. I did not finish it off. It needs to be blocked and primed again before paint. What you see is what you get. That one area is in grey primer. I posted pictures of the quarter panel to show what I did. This car runs and drives, but is not road ready. It pulls to the left really bad so It either needs an alignment or a front end bushing. I replaced a brake drums, brake rubber hoses, rebuilt or replaced all wheel cylinders. Tires are new. It runs great. No smoke. No knocks. No miss. Shifts great. Power steering. Power brakes. Power top (switch works, but top does not work). I bought the car in 2012 and I have a clear texas title in my name. When I bought the car, I spoke to the second owner's family and was able to get some old pictures. As far as the paint, it needs to be repainted. Some of it will shine up, but it is too rough to try and save. I believed most of the car is original paint, but some areas have been repainted. Here is all the rust that I know of: right inner fender under battery, core support under battery, left rear floorboard has about 3-4 holes the size of a pencil eraser. the floor is not soft. I would just use POR patch and paint it. there is a hole under the VIN tag on door post. small hole behind left rear tire (I put black paint on it). There is a hole starting in front of left rear tire. There is a hole starting on the right door on the bottom in the front. Left rocker has surface rust near lead seam, that may be coming through. I posted pictures of all the rest so there are no surprises. The interior is not the greatest. the original paint on the dash is in great shape. the left dash pad is perfect. the dash pad on the right side is warped. The rear seat cover is original and in great shape. the rear door panels are original and in good shape. the front door panels are original, but someone put aftermarket vinyl on the bottoms. The carpet is not correct. the kick panels have been recovered and are incorrect. the convertible top looks to be in great shape. I believed it was replaced soon before I bought the car.F0714DB is the engine suffix. It has the 4 barrel. The horn, radio, and power top do not work. The turn signals works, but they are hit and miss. All original lights appear to work including courtesy lights. I believe the second owner backed into something. if you look closely, the gap between the right quarter panel and the trunk lid is tight and it rubs. the rest of the gap is perfect. There is also a crease under the tail lights on both sides. I believe he backed into something. It will need to be pulled or try using a porta power. I do not think it will be difficult to fix. the trunk closes but you need to slam it. The passenger door closes perfect. The driver door will need a new hinge bushing. Please ask if you want more pictures. Im not in a hurry to sell it. Im looking to see what kind of offers it gets. |
