CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
I’m selling my Mercedes Unimog 404 truck after 5 amazing years of ownership. Turn heads? You bet it will, and this beast will go anywhere, and is guaranteed to dominate the conversations when you arrive at your destination. Here is the Virtual Test Drive Video on youtube (Cut and paste to view.) This 1963 404.1 was used by the military in both Germany and France and has been well cared for. It was shipped to the United States from France, modified for DOT standards, and has a clean Arkansas Motor Vehicle Title. (It is currently tagged in Arkansas as a light truck.) This Mog uses the venerable Mercedes M180 six-cylinder in-line gasser engine and starts easily. It has plenty of power through the 6-speed gearbox. (6 forward speeds, with 2 reverse) to haul up to 3300lbs on the flatbed, with folding/removable sidewalls and tailgate. The Portal Axle gear-reduction and super aggressive tires absolutely put your power to-the-ground, with single lever 2X4, 4X4, and Dual Locking Differential selector. Current odometer reading is 16,238 km, which converts to 10,089 miles. This beast was designed by real German engineers, not corporate CAD-guys trying to save pennies here and there by using plastic parts. In fact, they made the tough and expensive decision to utilize a full downswept ladder-style frame so the spare wheel could be mounted underneath the bed, without losing bed space, or ground clearance. Speaking of the heavy gauge steel frame, it provides added torsional flexibility and accommodates an amazing 3300lb payload. The floor of the bed has been replaced with new wood and stainless steel hardware so you won’t have to worry about it for many years. The truck color is dark military OD, and the wooden bed floor is dark brown. This truck has been given a military-style, functional paint job to look good and protect it, in a real-world environment. It is NOT a showroom finish, but if you want to take it to the next level, this truck is the perfect candidate. The soft top is in very good condition, is waterproof and easy to remove. Windshield folds down for the ultimate off-road 4X4 experience. Both driver’s and passenger’s removable door-windows are included, as well as the cab rear window curtain. (The inside canvas of the removable door windows are not in great condition, but are still usable - - please see photos.) Also note that the windshield looks to be original, and is slightly discolored around the edges, as is typical in a vehicle of this vintage, but does not affect visibility.Mercedes 404 service manual is included. This Unimog includes the heavy-duty military style Pintle hitch, as well as a separate, standard 2” receiver for towing heavy bumper-pull trailers. In addition to the new wooden bed floor, this Mog sports twin side emblems of the 10th Army Special Forces Group (as well as the bereted skull on the front hood) who I was told used it on covert ops, by the German guy that brought it over from France. The original decals were very faded, and so I replaced them with the post-1980 emblems to pay homage to those fine fighting men and women, with their special skills for warfighting behind enemy lines. (These emblems can be easily removed, if they're not your thing, etc..) This Mog is a pleasure to drive and you’ll have absolutely NO problem finding someone who wants to ride shotgun on your next adventure. (Yes, even going to get gas, or hauling firewood is an awesome experience..) Also, I shot a couple of videos to detail the truck’s condition and talk about the various features that make Unimogs so unique. I have been particularly reluctant to part with this beast, but I am reducing my collection of 4-wheel drive vehicles. Here is the Virtual Walk-Around Video (cut and paste to view.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxBpQdrafgQ If you want a jaw-dropping, rock-crawling, bet-winner of a 4X4, then THIS is the machine for you. I don’t care if you’re worried about the Collapse, Zombies, Russians, or Martians, this is one of the few chances you’ll get to own your own Mog. (Low Reserve!) Whatever they throw at you, from water crossings, mountain passes, and mud - - lots of mud - - your job is to get to your destination. Hey, the future belongs to the guys and gals who actually show up there, and with the right tools, so Be That Person! Please be sure to look at all the photos and watch both videos, and Contact me with any questions you have. Thanks!
