1977 Mustang Cobra II – Marti Report 1 of 1For sale is my 1977 Mustang Cobra II which is in great shapeboth mechanically and cosmetically. This car was originally sold in ArlingtonTX and made its way to southern CA where the previous owner purchased the vehicle.A framed Deluxe Marti Report shows the lineage of the car and the fact that itis one of one produced in 1977 (pictures of Marti Report are in the listing). The mileage on the odometer shows 31,081 (just add 100,000to the number due to the 5 digit odometer) which I believe to be accurate andcorrect based on the repair receipts. I purchased the car in 2010 and continuedthe restoration the previous owner started in 2006. Following are highlights ofthe restoration that has been completed:The front springs were replaced with 400# springs versus thestock 350# springs. This along with the addition of a rear sway bar and 15 inchwheels give the Cobra II a better ride, stance and handling without being bonerattling. An 8 track player was installed in place of the AM radio and 2speakers were added to the rear hatch area using donor panels (original OEMpanels are included) and over fifty 8 track tapes are included. Included with the car is a huge amount of rare advertisingmaterials, plastic models, 3 LaTraxx RC cars, all 16 Greenlight 1:16 scaledie-cast Mustang II models in boxes (one is missing the right outside mirror), 4oak display cases and many dealership advertising pieces, a complete setof Ford service manuals (print and CD), there’s too much to list here (seepictures for a glimpse of what will come with the car). This Mustang has beenhighlighted in Ford Racing’s Fan Spotlight (thanks John Clor!), MustangAttitude, on ABC in Chicago and was prominently featured in Marc Cranswick’s2019 book “Ford Mustang II and Pinto 1970-1980” (a new copy of the book isincluded, pictures are in listing). I would give the paint on this car a 7 out of 10 as thereare some minor flaws, rock chips etc, but still shows well after 14 years. Ibelieve the previous owner kept this car in a heated garage, and has been sinceI purchased the car in 2010. The car has been in the rain a few times and neverin any weather below 45 degrees. All body panels are straight and appearoriginal, the interior of the body panels still has the Ford brown rustinhibitor visible (see picture of inside door panels). A possible area of rustis on the seam above the left taillight as it is bubbled but has been like thatsince I purchased the car (picture in listing). An aftermarket metal louver onthe hatchback was installed by a previous owner, which over the years, hasscratched the glass.Being a 43 year old car, it has a few creaks and rattles butnothing that isn’t expected. There are a few minor repairs to be made (powersteering pump is getting noisy, right sport mirror needs to be tightened, heatriser tube needs to be welded) but nothing that effects the drivability orenjoyment of the car. When the gear ratio was changed, it effected the speedowhich now reads 10 mph faster than the true speed, I believe this can beaddressed by changing the gears in the speedometer. The circuit board for theinstrument panel has been replaced, but it was from a 6 cylinder car, thedifference is in how the fuel gauge reads, as the 8 cylinder cars had 3additional gallons of fuel capacity. This results in the fuel gauge staying atfull until the level comes down to 13 gallons in the main tank. This is not a concourse level trailer queen or a dailydriver, but a car that you can take to a car show, dust it off, shine up thewheels and tires and usually walk away with a trophy or two. Even if you don’tget any awards, it’s amazing how many people will comment on the fact that theydon’t see many of the Mustang IIs, especially one in this condition. The Cobra II was appraised in 2015 at $12,500 by MustangRestorations of East Dundee IL (which doesn’t include all of the 14 boxes ofNOS/Repro/OEM parts, rare advertising and dealer literature, etc.). Theappraisal was for the original motor and transmission which had been rebuilt byMustang Restorations. Since the appraisal, a 320 hp crate engine from 5 StarEngines (complete specs in listing) and a TCI Street Rodder C4 transmission havebeen installed (original 302 and transmission are included). You’re not justbuying a car, but the whole Mustang II experience! This sale is offered as acomplete package and the buyer is responsible for arranging transportation ofthe vehicle, all boxes, engine and transmission. There is no reserve as the starting price is less than halfof what I have spent on the car over the past ten years, so the starting priceis firm and I won’t consider selling any of the loose parts/memorabiliaseparately.
