GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY: Time to let go of our car collection. This is a low reserve auction and this 1964 Triumph TR4 will be sold, on or off auction. Started collecting about 50 years ago and the main objective was to buy the best one owner rust free cars for pleasure and investment. This early TR4, along with others in our collection, are being sold due to the owners age/health. Below are examples of our 100 percent positive feedback. None of these buyers physically saw the cars they bought until they arrived at their homes: #1. 1970 Cougar Eliminator - "Car was exactly as advertised, maybe even better - THANKS Richard". #2. 1971 Jaguar XJ6 - "Great car - honest seller". #3. 1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite - "Car was exactly as described, I would buy from him again". #4. 1966 Austin Healey 3000 - "Awesome - Exactly as described - fully trust this seller." #5. 1974 TVR 2500M - "Great deal, fast shipping. Thank you sir". #6. 1972 Jaguar XKE - "Perfect car from a perfect seller - thank you my friend". #7. 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible - "Car is in unbelievable original condition - very happy". #8. 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 - "Great people! Have no doubts when buying from this seller. One of the best!" #9. 1961 Triumph TR4 - "Great car as described". A solid 1964 Triumph Racing Green TR4 that my Son and I bought from a family friend in Georgia July 12, 1990 and has not been run or on the road since 1983. A faded Georgia State police inspection sticker on the windshield is from 1982. It has been in our warehouse storage since 1990 (30 years) and was brought out for recommissioning this past month. It is one of the most rust free original unrestored Triumphs you will see. It can be driven as it stands or worked on while driving to upgrade at your leisure. ENGINE: The original engine was replaced before we purchased the car with a late 1965 Triumph TR4A engine. The replacement is a real plus - it came from a wrecked TR4A which had less than 21000 miles on it and is in perfect running condition. There were no miles put on the car following the engine replacement because the owner passed away before he finished the job. We completed the installation recently, so the engine still should have around 21000 miles on it. It is very strong, responsive, tight and quiet. No issues at all. Excellent compression on all 4 cylinders - within a pound or two of 155. Taken a couple of days ago with a cold engine and dry cylinders and it has not been run in 30 years. No smoke, no noises. The day we purchased the car the engines cylinders were filled with a preservation oil that is normally used on rotary piston aircraft engines when they are put into storage. Carburetors are the originals and are correctly marked as such with the float bowl aluminum tags. They were recently rebuilt and function perfectly. Chrome vintage period air cleaners are on the carbs. A new Lucas Power coil was installed just before we bought the car. Engine number CT58124E. TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH: The transmission is the original Triumph 4 speed all syncro unit. Works well in all gears, syncros work well. Clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and clutch hose are brand new. A new clutch and throwout bearing were installed with the engine replacement. Everything works excellent. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Excellent, original and straight as shown. All original factory paint. Everything else looks to be 1964 factory original and intact. New battery. The Italian air horns were installed years ago in place of the stock horns. They work perfectly and are loud. New old stock fuel pump. Battery box has hole up way up near the top which is from the normal electrolysis action from the battery. Also has a small nickle sized isolated hole way off to the left side - both need to be pointed out to see and are well covered by the period Amco plastic battery box. Other than that the original battery box is solid with only surface scale rust. BRAKES/SUSPENSION/WHEELS/TIRES: All new brakes. New master cylinder, front calipers rebuilt including new stainless pistons, new brake pads, new brake shoes, new rear wheel cylinders, new rubber hydraulic lines. Emergency brake works. Suspension is all original, intact and undamaged. Wheels the original 60 spoke wire wheels in excellent condition - all five. Tires are at least 30 years old, hold air and need to be replaced. SHEET METAL BODY PANELS: The sheet metal body panels are all in straight rust free condition. A few minor dings but you cannot find a better rust free 57 year old TR4 than this one. Rockers - no rust. Inner sills - no rust. Doors/bottoms - no rust. Floors - no rust. (one minor isolated quarter sized hole on far right side - hardly noticeable). Frame/chassis - no rust. Trunk bottom - no rust. Dented front and rear lower valances. INTERIOR/UPHOLSTERY: Will need redoing. Needs a new carpet set. Original carpeting was removed to show the rust free original floors. (carpet was not good enough to use). Left door panel was missing and a wrong year replacement put on temporarily. All other panels are originals. Needs new dash pads (original top pad has a period accessory pad cover glued onto it). Seats need new diaphragms/covers - frames are excellent. Seat sliders are excellent and not frozen. DASH AREA: All original gauges look very nice. Odometer shows 45372 and is probably correct or close to it. Wipers work. Generator/ammeter works. Generator light works. Oil pressure gauge works - very high oil pressure. Fuel gauge works. Water gauge works. Runs cool. Tachometer works. Heater motor works. Speedometer needle does not move but the odometer and tripmeter do work. Radio does not work and probably never will. Original horns were removed in favor of the red Italian air horns shown. They work - loud. Manual choke works. Hood (bonnet) latch works. Wood on dash is usable but should be replaced or removed. The wood dash was an option at the time - The Heritage certificate lists "wooden facia" as one of the equipment options. Actually I prefer the early steel dashes. The wood could be removed if you prefer the steel dash. ELECTRICAL: The original wiring appears to be in good condition. A few extra wires are seen to support things like the air horns, radio, etc but no cutting, butchering, rodent damage, etc can be seen anywhere. Under the dash looks original, clean and intact. New battery. Still operates on original positive ground. Original horns were removed in favor of the red Italian air horns which work quite well via an auxiliary horn button mounted atop the steering column. Everything works. Lights, turn signals, heater motor, wiper motor, generator, etc. PAINT: Most of the paint is original. Some areas (like the hood, etc) were fogged over on top of the original paint with what looks like spray can paint - who knows for whatever reason. Probably to stop any rust from forming on worn original paint. But under the cheap spray paint is solid sheet metal with original paint - it's not hiding anything - there is no rust anywhere. No idea why it was sprayed over other than for rust prevention. The tan/brown areas you see on any of the sheet metal is the original factory primer coat. On the hood the gray areas you see (a lot of) is also the factory primer coat. That's the colors they used and the way they did it. These areas are places where the original paint has worn or flaked off, exposing the factory primer underneath. If you have a friend in the paint business you can end up with a show winner for very little investment - or clean/touch up the paint and drive it as is. I would. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Good, straight and solid - typical worn, chipped original factory paint but no rust. Surface rust only as shown. Excellent original 60 spoke spare wire wheel. Right rear lower panel has been dented in near trunk lower corner. UNDERCARRIAGE/CHASSIS: As good as you can get for 57 years old. Straight, undamaged, no rust. Just the typical weathering patina. EXHAUST: Old rusty exhaust needs replacement. GLASS: Original glass is all intact. Windows roll up and down. Windshield has some wiper marks that may buff out - may not. TOP/FRAME: Top frame is original and in good condition. Solid, no damage, all joints free and functional. Surface rust - needs to be sanded and painted. Top obviously needs replacing. PAPERWORK: Free and clear title in my name. British Motor Heritage certificate included. The Heritage certificate lists the car as being British Racing Green with a black leather interior and a white top. Manufactured 15 December 1964, sent on 23 December 1964 to Standard Triumph Motor Company in Jacksonville Florida. Optional equipment was - 60 spoke wire wheels, heater, windscreen washer, white tonneau cover, internal sun visors, wooden facia and 165-15 Michelin X tyres. FACTORY ID PLATES: All Vehicle identification ID plates are intact and correct. The vehicle serial number is CT39780L. Body number 39942CT - Both correct matching numbers to the Heritage certificate. REVIEW: A documented early rust free Triumph TR4 roadster that can be driven as it stands or worked on while driving to upgrade it's condition. It has not been driven on the road since it's recommissioning - only driven up and down our long driveway. You will need to drive it slowly at first to break in the new brakes and possibly sort minor details out. VALUE: As of this date Hagerty Classic Car values lists the 1961 Triumph TR4's at: #1 - $45,400. #2 - $27,100. #3. $16,900. #4. $8,200. INSPECTION OF CAR: It is recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accommodate anyone to show them the car. I have sold roughly 30 autos and motorcycles through ebay over the past 25 years with a solid 100 percent buyer satisfaction feedback. I give buyers an honest description, a better product and a better deal than they expect. SHIPPING: Having shipped cars to all parts of the world over the years I can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange it, only if necessary. However the cheapest and most efficient method is for the new owner to call a transport broker in their area and have them put out bids for the job. The car is in a secure place at my home and it can be collected there. I can assist with loading. PAYMENT & BIDDING: Contact me prior to bidding if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid will be cancelled and you will be barred from any of my auctions. A $1000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. No Paypal for the remaining balance and the balance is due within 3 days via wire transfer or express mail with a bank cashiers check or cash. No Paypal for the balance. Payment is to be made in advance of collecting the car. This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect it for you - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. (or haggle on the price). When the auction is over, it is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. No Paypal for the balance.
