1973 DODGE D100 ADVENTURER SE VIN: D14AE3X044128 Description: OK Mopar Enthusiasts, listing my original appearing 1973 Dodge D100 conventional cab, long bed pickup truck with 131” wheelbase and rare Adventurer SE package that was dealer ordered on 10/25/1972 from Howard Taylor Dodge in San Diego, CA with a 318, 2-bbl V8, built in November 1972 and delivered on 12/12/1972 for a total purchase price of $4,338.55 per sales order and delivery documentation on file. The truck is now powered by a professionally rebuilt (in August 2007 by Ed Hale High Performance Engines - Lakeside, CA) HP 340-4bbl small block motor (Engine Casting # 2780930 340 LA 1968-73 Not T/A or AAR (Build Date: 10/1971) The replacement 1971 vintage LA series motor has 10.3:1 compression ratio (93 octane fuel is best for such compression. Be sure the total timing is below 40*BTDC. Most run a 36*, that's a good goal to tune for), rebuilt Holley #4160 - 600 cfm 4-bbl carb with functional electric choke, Edelbrock aluminum Performer dual plane intake, forged crank and larger factory “X” heads with vintage aluminum valve covers, Isky Racing 256 Supercam (#390125/26 with 256 duration, 425 lift & hydraulic lifters), Hedman (CA) Elite #79088 HTC street headers (size 1-5/8”) connected to Flowmaster mufflers & full 2-1/4” dual exhaust system with rear side exit turn down chrome 3” pipe ends for a nice Mopar “rumble” sound. Aluminum replacement radiator from Griffin with electric fan(s) and dash mounted switches w/ 16” - 2,700 cfm S-Blade cooling fan to keep things cool under the hood. A rebuilt (05/27/2005 by AmTrans - San Diego, CA) A727 HD 3-speed auto TorqueFlite/LoadFlite for trucks, transmission with aftermarket (PML as-cast finish) deep aluminum finned pan to help propel this classic Dodge truck. Carburetor Info: * Holley #6160-1 * Series ............. 4160 {Vacuum Secondary} * Application ..... 1968-71 Mopar 340 {275 HP Base Engine spec w/Dual Exhaust} * Throttles ......... 1.563" Primary x 1.563" Secondary * Venturi's......... 1.063" {Primary} x Automatic Vacuum {Secondary} * CFM Rating...... 600 {Advertised} Note: Though 'advertised' at 600 CFM, this Holley Carburetor should put out closer to 635 CFM on the 340 {@ W.O.T.} Note: Was used on Automatic Transmission 'only' cars. Reportedly, a decent Holley Carburetor for 340 "General Street Performance” engines. Rear Axle Info: Spicer (Dana) 44 axles use an 8-1/2-inch ring gear bolted to the carrier by “10 bolts” that are 3/8 x 24 right-hand thread. The case itself is 9-3/8 inches in diameter. The cement mixer-shaped differential cover also has 10 bolts. The input on the pinion shaft is 1-3/8” in diameter and has 26 spline. Original ring and pinion gears were produced from 8620 steel, making this assembly capable of handling most engine horsepower and torque specifications. Although not as strong as its big brother, the Dana 60, it is quite a lot lighter than the 60 without sacrificing much in the way of strength. Axle shafts are 1-1/8 inches in diameter with 30 spline 1-5/16-inch ends. Dana 44 rear ends have two carrier sizes or breaks; any gear size from 2.72:1 to 3.73:1 will use one carrier, gears from 3.92:1 up to 5.89:1 use another. Standard case Dana rear with 3.23 gear ratio and limited slip differential is assumed equipped on this vintage D100 truck. This is a two (2) owner truck (CA open / clear Vehicle Title in hand) with the last owner who purchased the vehicle used on 06/29/1984 for $2,200 and then owned for over 36 years and rebuilt / repainted this now antique truck. Reportedly, there are approximately 118k miles on the truck since purchased delivered new in December 1972 with less than 5k miles on the professionally rebuilt / upgraded motor and trans. This classic Mopar truck runs out fine on pump gas distributed from the single 25(?) gallon fuel tank located directly behind the front seat inside the truck cab. Binder of receipts available for all work done to the truck by the 2 prior owners over the years, including the exterior body and re-paint work completed in July 2004 or 16+ years ago using White PPG#91051 & Tan PPG#28409. The truck inside bed & tailgate areas are still original patina showing minor wear & tear. Truck body panels are mostly rust-free, however, some minor paint bubbling is noticeable on the exterior top of the right front fender near the antenna base and inside the engine bay, lower RH & LH door panels. The frame and undercarriage area was left untouched and has visible surface rust, but no rust through holes. Truck has power steering, power brakes (front disc & rear drum), A/C (converted to R134, but reportedly leaks down - could be evaporator / compressor / leaks in pressure lines?), optional and still clean / fully functional locking tool storage box on RH lower exterior of truck bed and speed/cruise control option (currently disconnected). Interior equipped with aftermarket gauges for oil pressure, water temp and Suntuner 8,000 RPM tach, along with non-original Pioneer stereo system and two floor mounted box speakers. Approx. six year old 16” Bridgestone Dueler A/T Radial tires (P245-70R16) with approx. 5k+ miles mounted on 5-lug, reconditioned in 2004 silver & clear powder coated 16” Eagle alloy 8-spoke wheels and HD Rubber Truck Mud Flaps all around. Original spare Polyglas G78-15 tire is still in its factory holder located underneath the rear of the truck bed. Truck was ordered new on 10/25/1972 and delivered on 12/12/1972 from Howard Taylor Dodge in San Diego, CA by local area resident, E. D. Kohl, and original dealer order / vehicle delivery documentation confirms same. The original blue CA license plates (88 249N) remain on the truck since new and come with the truck to continue its legacy. Second owner of approx. 37 years indicates that it will not be easy to see the classic Dodge D100 go, but he knows the now 3rd true owner (ME) will appreciate and take care of her. A truck cover will come with the vehicle, along with some spare parts. Documented details on file for the replacement / rebuilt Chrysler “LA” Series hi-performance 340 c.i. - 4bbl. small block engine / A727 HD TorqueFlite automatic 3-speed transmission rebuilds and partial truck restoration (sand down body panels to bare metal, prep & repaint truck exterior, underside of hood and door jambs to factory appearing original White & Tan two tone colors with replacement wood grain decal trim inserts).
