1970 MUSTANG MACH 1 in Competition Orange with mildly built 351 4-V Cleveland engine and Tremec TKO 5 speed transmission. The car has been in the St. Louis area from 1980 until I bought it in 2009. It was fully restored about 20 years ago and has held up remarkably well. It is kept in a climate controlled garage and only comes out for cruises and local shows. Most of the restoration work was performed by Gateway classic Mustangs in St. Louis. BODY AND TRIM. Paint is Competition Orange PPG Acrylic Urethane. It has one small bubble spot on the drivers door that was there when I bought it, and has not changed since then. It has a few very small chips that are not noticeable. The underbody is solid with no rust or holes but does not look as fresh as a new restoration. It has a Boss 429 Hood Scoop, but I also have the original scoop. Car has the original sport slats on the rear window, but no spoiler. It has new front bumper and for lamps and all lights and turn signals work as they should. I cannot verify the mileage, but it is fully restored so it probably is irrelevant.ENGINE. Built in 2000. 351-4V Cleveland bored .030 over to a 357 cubic inch. TRW forged pistons and push rods, 11.0:1 compression ratio, Comp bearings. Has MPG Heads exhaust port plates which improves torque curve and improves mid-range horsepower It has a solid roller cam with a 282 duration and .570 lift on both intake and exhaust. It has a K&N air filter, Holly 850 CFM carb, and Edelbrock intake manifold. It made 330 wheel HP on dyno at 6000 RPM and was still pulling. About 400 flywheeel HP. Crane Cams electronic ignition, Ford Racing high torque starter, and100 amp polished alternator. 4V exhaust manifolds,2 1/2" aluminized tubing and H pipe and Magna-Flow mufflers with polished stainless exhaust tips, K&N air cleaner, extra capacity radiator with correct brackets and fan shroud.ELECTRIC WIRING. Was completely redone by Gateway Classic Mustangs with all new wiring harnesses from the firewall forward.TRANSMISSION AND DRIVETRAIN. Tremec TKO 500 5 speed with heavy duty 26 spline input shaft and Hurst shifter. Has McLeod SFI approved steel scattershield and Fidenza Carbon/Kevlar racing clutch. Clutch is very smooth and has a great feel, not too hard. Still has steel driveshaft and 9" ford rear end with 3.25 gears and traction lock.SUSPENSION. All New.. The front end has all new upper and lower control arms, Total Control lowering springs, all new bushings, bearings, and 1" torsion bar with new ends. The rear has 4 1/2 leaf mid eye leaf springs to lower it in the back so it sits right. Has an MPG Heads full anodized aluminum Shock Tower Brace and Monte Carlo Bar with quick release pins to tighten up the front end. and new front brake rotors, hoses and hardware, wheel bearings, hubs and seals.STEERING. Has Total Control Products Power Rack and Pinion steering with KRC racing remote mounted power steering reservoir. It was installed by Gateway Classic Mustangs. The steering is firm, but not hard. Much better than factory.WHEELS AND TIRES. Wheels are 15" steel Magnum 500's purchased in 2004, tires are BFG TA RadialsFronts are 225/60R15 on 15X7 Wheels, and rear are 255/60R 15 on 15X8 wheels.INTERIOR. Bucket seats were recovered and new foam was used during the restoration and new carpet was added. No rips or worn areas. Period correct Stewart Warner (SW) oil pressure (holds at 80 #) and water temperature gauges are in the dash. The radio and heater fan are not hooked up. The headliner is in great shape as are all the interior panels.THIS CAR IS A RESTOMOD THAT KEEPS A LOT OF ITS ORIGINALITY. It is a numbers matching car except for the 5 speed. The car is in great shape and gets a lot of attention when out cruising. It is definitely more powerful than a stock Cleveland, but very easy to drive on the street.. |
