It was sold new by the importer Harmon Motors Co. of San Francisco, California and ordered with the following factory options:Equipment for CaliforniaElectric SunroofPirelli TiresThe earliest owner of record was a Ms. Donna B. Mitchell of Sacramento, California. We don’t know if she was the original owner or how long she owned the car. She sold the 930 on April 25th, 1996 with 124,986 miles to Robert Merritt who also lived in Sacramento. He serviced the car mostly at European Sports Car Garage, Inc. in Sacramento. He drove the car regularly for 5-years and added another 16k-miles. He sold it in 2001 with 141k-miles to Oscar Letourneau of Sacramento. Shortly after purchase, Letourneau put the car in storage for 6-years. In May of 2007, he took the car to Schatz & Krum, a local independent Porsche repair shop to rebuild the engine as it had broken head studs and was leaking. They also installed updated chain tensioners. After the engine work was done, this owner drove it less than 100-miles and put it back in storage where it was forgotten for another 8-years. In April of 2015, a dealer in Pennsylvania purchased the car from the Letourneau family. Upon inspection, they found the engine to be low on compression and the prior engine work not done at the highest level. The current owner is a Los Angeles area enthusiast. He purchased this 930 from the PA dealer on July 21st, 2015 with 141,285 miles. He loved the color and wanted to have a fun 930 to drive to local car events as well as canyon drives. We’ve sold many cars for this owner over the past decade. He enjoys the hobby and always has nice driving examples and spares no expense to do things right. This example was no different. The first job at hand was to go through the mechanicals of the car.He hired Henry Schmidt of Supertec Performance in Fallbrook, California to take on the job. The car was delivered to Supertec on December 1st, 2015 to have the drivetrain rebuilt. Highlights of the build included the following:Engine: Custom built to performance spec of 300+ hp 3.0L Mahle pistons and cylinders (95mm) High compression CP forged pistons Port heads to 37mm Performance cams (911SC) Porting intake manifold 3.0L Crank (2/5 oil mod, mag, micro polished 70.4mm stroke) Supertec head studs Main bearings Rod bearings (Clevite77) Intermediate shaft bearings 930 oil pump and pump modifications New comp timing chains and ramps Turbo chain tensioners Reconditioned rods with ARP bolts and Supertec nuts Recondition rockers and shafts Complete engine balance Complete valve job with manganese/bronze guidesSteel valve spring retainersStock valve springs32mm intake ports / 38mm exhaust Rebuilt alternator Kingsborne plug wires Powder coat turbo valve covers and sheet metal Stock reconditioned flywheelPorsche auxiliary air regulatorK27 turbo upgradeRebuild waste gateLater style 930 exhaust3.0 distributer vacuum canisterTransmission rebuild: Rebuild to factory specs Gasket set Sycro rings, blocks, bands, and stops Main shaft bearing Pinion bearing Shift forks as needed Additional bearings as needed 1st and reverse slider Gear teeth as needed Shift sleeves and hubs as neededAdditional work done during engine and transmission rebuild: Rebuild front brake calipers Brake rotors and pads for front and rear Seals and wheel bearings New brake lines Battery New axels Replaced both fuel pumps Repaired hand throttle Replace steering bushing Rebuild tachometer (North Hollywood Speedo) Hood shocks Test vehicle wiringThe total for the mechanical restoration was $33,866. The work was completed in June of 2018. During that time, the car was taken to John Esposito Porsche Repair for some paint touch up. Esposito touched up some chips on the fender flares, front valance, roof, and sunroof panel. Also, while the sunroof panel was out, the sunroof system was cleaned and repaired so that it operates properly. After the paint work was finished, the car went down to Tony at Autobahn in San Diego to have the interior restored. The original color was cork. The owner changed the color to a correct factory shade of dark green leather that was available in 1977. This included a redoing the dash in full leather, full leather seats, door tops, door panels, new plush carpet, and new black headliner. The bill was close to $12k.Some recent and significant work just completed last year includes:Suspension work and other misc. repairs (8/19 @ 141,497 miles) Bilstein shocks and struts 4 wheel alignment Remove and modify front torsion bar and height adjusters Adjusted fuel pressure, idle, and set injection system Bosch spark plugs 1 bar waste gate spring Repair and rekey passenger door lock Total bill was $5,018This first generation Porsche 911 Turbo is in excellent driver condition. It’s extremely dry with no signs of rust or prior damage. The paint appears to be an older high quality paint job with no filler. It was typical of this generation low production metallic paint jobs to have clear coat issues, which would result in checking or fading. The door jambs, trunk, and engine bay appear to still wear their original paint. The paint is in excellent condition with some recent touch up and blending by John Esposito. There are still a few minor chips here and there from light use but nothing significant. The panel fitment is quite good and it appears the car has never been apart. The deco trim and exterior rubber are in good shape with some slight age showing on the rear spoiler rubber lip. The factory Fuchs wheels were recently restored with an anodized RSR frosted finish. They are wearing near full tread Pirelli Cinturato P7 tires. The fronts are dated 2019 and rears are dated 2013. There are no signs of age or cracking. The brakes are near new with almost full life remaining. The exterior glass is original with the exception of a newer windshield. There are no major chips or scratches. All the exterior lights work as do the wipers. We just purchased correct Turbo vinyl decals as were available from the factory in period. They were professionally installed by our local specialist. The interior was recently restored and it looks and smells new. The leather seats have a nice feel to them with no signs of age or use. The carpet, headliner, and door panels are in near perfect condition. The dash has no cracks and no warping issues. The interior lights work as do the other electric features including the driver mirror, sunroof, and windows. The A/C compressor was removed years ago, but the blower motor still works along with the controls. The passenger mirror was an option in 1977 and this example had one installed, most likely by the dealer when new. It is manually controlled. The gauges mostly work, including the clock. However, once in a while the tachometer needle sticks. The electric windows do work and they were recently lubricated for easier use. This car was never ordered with a radio, but apparently a Blaupunkt Bramburg was dealer installed. It has long since been removed.Full history and over 150 detailed photos on our website at AutoKennel Vehicle Description 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera CoupeIce Green Metallic / Numbers MatchingCalifornia Owned Since NewRecent Full Mechanical RestorationNew Complete Leather InteriorVIN # 930780xxxxENG# 687xxxx(930/53)TRN# 77xxxx930/33)Numbers Matching142,200 MilesLess Than 1,000 Miles on Full Mechanical RestorationLess Than 1,000 Miles on Full Interior Restoration by Autobahn InteriorsIce Green Metallic (266) on Green Leather4-Speed Manual TransmissionClean and Clear California Title Straight and Dry ChassisPCA Member OwnedPorsche Certificate of AuthenticityThis Turbo was built in March of 1977.
