POWERFULL CHEVROLET 454 C-10Not youraverage short-box pickup, this 1976 Chevrolet C10 features custom orange andblack paint and bodywork and a customized interior to match, with a seatingarrangement that looks a lot more comfortable and supportive than the originalbench. Oh, and it’s engine has been swapped for a 454-cubic-inch V-8, too. POWERTRAIN According tothe third digit in this C10’s VIN, this truck started life with the reliable, yet none-too-powerful 250-cu.in. “Stovebolt” six. When this truck was rebuiltand given the street-rod treatment, that venerable mill came out, and in itsplace went a 454 V-8. That engine was rebuilt in 2019, and has been modifiedwith Holley four-barrel carburetor mounted atop an Edelbrock Performer 2.0aluminum intake and a Holley fuel pump. The seller notes that the engine has a“hot” cam, but provides no specs. The engine breathes through headers and athree-inch exhaust system, terminating in Flowmaster mufflers which exitstraight out the back, on either side of the license plate. The seller reportsno leaks. The video supplied shows the cold engine starting and it fires tolife immediately. The big-block is backed by a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400, which is suited to therigors of running behind a 454. The seller provides photos showing the undersideand no leaks are evident from the pan or the lines. The seller says thetransmission shifts great. It’s controlled by a B&M ratchet shifter mountedto the floor in the cab and sends power to a 12-bolt rear end with aPositraction limited-slip differential. CHASSIS The photosof the underside show a nicely detailed and painted chassis with no corrosionevident. All of the suspension components appear to be clean, painted chassisblack and free of grease and rust. The seller points out that the shocks werereplaced recently and that the springs are good front and rear. The bushingsthat are visible appear to be free of cracks. The front end features droppedspindles and power steering. According to the seller, the pump and lines haveno leaks and the steering system has no play or looseness. There’s no servicehistory listed on the brakes, but the seller says they stop the truck with nopulling or mushiness from the pedal. The truck rides on American Racing AR61Outlaw 1 machined alloy wheels with Hankook radial tires, sized 295/50R15 andcustom lettered with Chevrolet script matching the color of the truck.EXTERIOR C10s from1976 were a lot of things, but exquisitely finished from the factory they werenot. Paint issues were rampant and the sheet metal was prone to corrosion ineven the driest climate. It helped that this truck started life in Florida. Theseller points out no blemishes in the paint’s finish, and there’s no orangepeel evident in the photos or the videos. The rear bumper was replaced with aroll pan. Most of the chrome and emblems have been removed, with the exceptionof the marker light trim, the front bumper and grille, and the drip edgemoldings. The truck has a cowl hood and small chrome mirrors, and the bed iscovered with a vinyl tonneau cover. The bed itself was finished as nicely asthe exterior, and is now the home to a fuel cell, along with tubbed fenders.INTERIOR Inside, thisdefinitely doesn’t look like a ’76 C10. The seat was removed and replaced witha three-position bench with high backs in the driver and passenger spots. Thecenter seat features a fold-down console. The door panels are black and show nosignificant wear on the armrests. The metal portions of the interior werepainted to match the outside of the truck, and all of the gauges – which aresaid to function properly – are accented with a matching orange pinstripe. Theoil pressure, temperature and volt meters are aftermarket AutoMeter gauges, butthey fit in the original spots on the Chevrolet dash. The tilt steering wheelhas been replaced with a black Grant GT wheel. The original radio has beenreplaced with a modern aftermarket AM/FM head unit with Bluetoothfunctionality, along with aftermarket tweeters and rear speakers.DOCUMENTATION This vehiclewill be sold on a clean Florida title.Custom “Square Body” short-box pickups are a perennial favorite.
