Cadillac re-engineered and rethought everything. The new frontal styling continued the jewel like look of the previous year although this time the grillework ran the full width of the car and was no longer encompassed by grille bars and the bumper. Dual headlamps were set into the front fenders under a slight underhang and below them twin parking/turn signal lamps were mounted into the bumper. The hood was wide and somewhat flat with a wraparound windshield mounted higher allowing for a much improved view of the road with the slender rear pillars and greatly enlarged rear window allowing for better rearward visibility too. And at the rear, well, the iconic tall tailfins with twin bullet shaped tailights and bumper ends emulating jet engines exhaust outlets, were to prove the most outstanding and instantly recognizable of all American car designs internationally for years to come.The Bill Mitchell designed Cadillac was as large and luxurious as ever and this is a Cadillac that could easily carry six people and featured an all new powertrain boasting a large 390 CID V8 engine producing 325 horsepower.
