If you want to have fun driving an old truck, fast enough to keep up with freeway/highway traffic, strong enough to haul loads of gravel, mulch, furniture, etc and at the same time have people honking, giving you the peace sign or wanting to take photos of it ... then this 1959 VW Custom Single Cab is for you. New VW cross members and VW bed were installed during the restoration process. (pics available). The two colors are Porche Turbo Nordic Gold Metallic LM2Z & Carrara White LB9A and shows no wear or tear after 10 years of painting. The engine and freeway flyer were built in 2018 and have around 900 miles on them. Everything works except the gas guage, which is not hooked up. Why so few miles driven? It was in a temperature controlled storage for RVs for 20 months. The Gene Berg shifter makes it nice along with it having a nice lowered stance but not slammed. The Porche disc brakes will stop you with ease and the 1835cc will let you cruise down any highway, freeway, interstate, or country road with smoothness. I took this on a 550 mile trip in June when temperatures in Southern California was breaking records wiith triple digits and then home across the Arizona desert in 100° temperatures. No problems keeping the engine cool with the custom doghouse fan shroud to accommodate the larger oil cooler. Now this truck is driven, it is used and not a show car or a trailer queen. It's been restored 10 years ago but it's still a 61 year old VW and things wear out. Remember that when bidding. THIS IS NOT A SHOW CAR. IT'S A DRIVER !!!THE BAD STUFF- Small crack in paint on engine apron (in photos)- Rear apron curled up (in photos)- treasure chest door lock cover needs replaced (lost pin just yesterday)- engine lid stay weld broke (I have the painted one that came with and a brand new on in package primer gray)- treasure chest door stay missing (have a brand new one in the package primer gray)So why am I selling something this great???In 2007 I sold my all-time favorite 1963 VW Panel van and it is back online for sale. I have been in touch with the seller with plans of buying it. Not that I do that much hauling of stuff, I can carry the same stuff in a panel van as I can this single cab pickup. I also currently have a "large herd" of other vehicles with only a two car garage and two spots on my driveway for parking them. I must admit as nice as this lowered '59 single cab is I am probably too 'old school' and would prefer a stock height, stock look, VW single cab. In addition to this, the curb to my driveway makes it a very focussed effort to back it out of the driveway without hitting the bottom of the front axle, while creeping in slow motion to ease it down into the street. Here is the build sheet of the restoration that took place in different years. I have all photos and all the receipts for this single cab that will be passed on to the next owner. A clear Arizona title is in hand. Other photos are available from bare metal in 2010 to it sitting in my driveway in 2020 upon request. Thanks for reading all of this and good luck bidding. |
