On offer is my 1972 Porsche 914. I purchased it to be a commuter car for my mid-life crisis graduate degree. When I purchased it, it was offered as a "driver". That may have been an overstatement. So after rebuilding engine reconstructing the 2.0L motor installed by the previous owner in anticipation of use in auto-cross replacing the heads and pistons with the ultra-rare 1.7L Mahle, high compression piston and cylinder set. The torque band is now truly impressive. To further enhance performance the Del'Orto carbs were replaced with a dual Weber set up. Once complete my mechanic turned his attention to tidying up the transmission for more positive shifting, addressing all electrical issues, brakes and emergency brake. He was successful with everything but the emergency brake. I introduced a MOMO steering wheel to compliment the MOMO five point harness installed and began to put on the necessary "shakedown" miles. Now complete, I have just had an oil change and tune. In the process, I replaced the stock distributor with an electronic set up and the performance upgrades are now complete. The problem is that I had already finished my degree, so now I have a lovely 914 that is a blast to drive but I have no real use for it. This fact has not escaped my wife's attention with respect to the presence of the 914 in light of garage space constraints. So now I find myself selling the most fun car I have driven in many years. This 914 is a driver, and there is rust in the usual spots but none of it effect structural integrity or handling which makes it a great "driver". The paint is attractive at 10 feet and the interior is remarkably clean, with an intact dash with only one small crack near the ashtray. An auxiliary plug allows use of a your cellphone through the stereo. It is not the most effective interface I have encountered but it does work with a headphone jack. Many spares are included. These include the original del'Orto carbs, exhaust, steering wheel, US style turn signal lenses and other original elements for someone that wishes to return it to a more stock set up. But the question is why would anyone want to when this 914 is about as much fun as a "driver" can be?Feel free to send any questions that I may answer and assure the new owner that this particular 914 is uniquely set up for many miles of sunshine and pleasurable driving.Thank you for your interest! |
