The car boasts it's seemingly original matching #'s 427/390HP 'LM' code engine with date coded correct 3935439 casting # with VIN # stamped on the engine pad; 4 speed manual transmission with Muncie date coded correct 3925660 casing casting #. The high performance solid lifter 427 was initially listed at 450HP but for reasons unclear the rating, not the actual output, was reduced to 425HP shortly after introduction. It is also of note that some 390HP engines were rated at 400HP. Backup lights became standard and were incorporated into the existing rear inboard taillight housings.For 1968, both the Corvette body and interior were completely redesigned. As before, the car was available in either coupe or convertible models, but the coupe was fitted with a near-vertical removable rear window and removable roof T-Top roof panels. Included with coupes were hold down straps and a pair of vinyl bags to store the roof panels and the headlamps moved into position via a vacuum operated system rather than electrically as on the previous generation, and new hide-away windshield wipers utilized a vacuum door. The door handles were flush with the top of the doors with a separate release button. Front fenders had functional engine cooling vents. It would prove to be the long lived successor to the second generation (1963-67) years and was often referred to by enthusiasts as the 'Shark' with no initial model designation at first, but which later became known as the 'Stingray' from 1969 onwards. The somewhat freer breathing early engines of 1968-70 are the most collectible and desirable today with the Big Blocks obviously proving eminently desirable.This particular example has no signs of any accidents and is the beneficiary of a very presentable repaint in 'Dark Brown Metallic' and looks extremely striking with a later 1970's Black Corvette seats interior and with the car's original seats, although in good condition but needing reupholstering, also to be included in the sale. The car must be driven to be truly appreciated - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that with the modern upgrade of computer driven fuel injection etc will give any modern day sports car a run for it's money!
