No excuses, no disappointments One owner car in the same family for 56 years of ownership. The Beetle Story:The Beetle was purchased new in 1964 by Edgar Wilson of Pembrooke Pines, Florida. It was purchased from Continental Motors in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Edgar drove the Beetle for 24 years and in 1988 with 172,810 miles he started the floor pan up restoration. Edgar is an engineer by trade and very critical of correctness and originalty. He completed all aspects of the restoration other than the body, paint and interior portions of the car. The entire restoration process is documented with many photos of each step and also many, many, many receipts totaling around $10,000 ...32 years ago. All the receipts are kept in a very vintage Hav-A-Tampa Jewels Exclusive Birchwood Tip Cigar Box. Where Else...!!! Once the 1964 VW Beetle was now back to showroom new condition Edgar enjoyed looking at all his hard work and keeping it covered in his climate controlled garage. He would occasionally take her out for a little exercise on a beautiful sunny day and then put here away. He did decide to let someone inspect the total restoration and took the Beetle to two car shows. Judges placed it in 2nd place at one show and it took 1st place at the other. Edgar kept the two awards, a plaque and a stand up trophy. They are in perfect condition even though 32 years old still in the original plastic covers. In 1998 he decided it was time to pass this special Beetle to his daughter who had known the car her entire life. She has treated the Beetle exactly like her father did since he completed the restoration, as an occasional driver only in perfect weather for the last 22 yrs, putting a total of 4540 miles on the car. Always kept covered in her climate controlled garage as well.Edgar kept many, if not almost all the original parts that were changed during the restoration. There is a huge plastic tote full of those parts, way to many to mention here. Even the original pop metal dealer license plate frame from the day he purchased the car is in the tote along with the original VW Emblem from the hood. The original glass headlight covers are there, wrapped, documented and sealed. As I said there are many original items included. His Documentation, Where do I start. Lets start with the little faded blue spiral top notebook. Some of the original pages must have fallen out over the last 56 years. I say this because under the rubber band held on front cover, the back cover is still attached by a few rusty spiral wires...written is March 3, 1972 miles 79,350... oil, screen, grease. As you flip through page after page you come to realize Edgar has documented every time he has ever touched or completed any type of maintenance on the Beetle. When you reach the last page of Edgars' records, not the last page of the little blue notebook, written is May 24, 1984 169,500 miles changed oil. Under a line Edgar made across the page is written 9-2-84... 170,260 miles, new muffler and tips. In large writing in the middle of the page is PARKED ('84 to '87) with an arrow pointing down where he has written 12-12-87 to 11-9-88 "Restoration" 172,800 miles. Original Documentation:The original plastic tri-fold booklet holder from VW Continental Motors INC. Fort Lauderdale, Florida the original dealership who sold Edgar the car is here and in tremendous condition. The original Owners Manual, original Dealers and Distributors Manual, the All Transistor Radio Manual, What's Behind your Volkswagen Manual, the Original Warranty Protect O Plate with Edgar Wilson name, address, and the Beetles' Model number 113 and Chassis Number 6084 994 Embossed into the Plastic Card. The two sets of original VW emblemed keys are with the car along with a few spares of course. The other part of the history of this Beetle is the wrong Warranty Protection Plan Booklet. As I mentioned the Protect O Plate is correct, the original booklet that goes with it belongs to someone else's 1964 Beetle. It is completed and fill out by Edgar, he used it as his own, after trying to get the VW factory to send the one that belonged to this Beetle. There is a signed letter in the paperwork from Volkswagen AG 3180 Wolfsburg 1 F.R. Germany to verify this issue. They never found it.... Everything mentioned goes with the Beetle, parts, original VW tools, paperwork, etc, etc and even the car cover too. Plus the car cover carrier, bagged and documented... yes Edgar keeps everything. Never could get it back into that tiny little pouch. Truly one great story and one very very special 1964 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan. Many more photos of the car, paperwork, crated original engine, etc..email for them. Call Frank 570-383-7506 (Serious Buyers) |
