1978 Silver Anniversary Chevrolet Corvette.Almost 200 photos: corvette dot grohn dot usThis example of the 1978 Silver Anniversary Corvette received a mechanical overhaul in 2010, less than 5000 miles ago. Actual miles on this car are unknown, but certainly not as low as the odometer shows. The circumstance of the odometer change is not known as that happened before acquisition of the car as a mechanical rebuild project. The original power plant was cleaned, machined, cylinders bored .30 over, stock crank reground, and stock rods reconditioned. New parts used in the build include RHS Pro Torker heads, Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam, and Edelbrock Performer intake & carb. While the car hasn’t been on a dyno, the combination of parts should yield 350HP. By changing the carb for one with higher flow, this setup will yield 500HP, but all that does is burn up tires. As it is now, the car has good hard shifts, can chirp the tires on the 1-2 shift, and is ridiculous fun to drive. Due to a leak in one front brake caliper, both front brake calipers were rebuilt/upgraded and loaded with new pads. The OE style caliper pistons have a tendency to leak on vehicles that are not driven very much, and the upgrade done includes new caliper pistons that use o-rings (DOT5 and higher fluid must not be used).
