This is a beautiful replica of a 1957 Porsche speedster I impulsively bought back in 2013 from a Nevada owner. I fast learned how these cars do not come without many hours labour and love. Anyone that has owned a classic car will know what I am talking about. If you are not willing to learn a bit about the mechanics of the car and roll up yours sleeves now and then this car isn't for you! Especially, as the number of Porsche VW/Porsche mechanics with the knowledge fast retire. I decided to stick with it and got involved in the inner workings thanks to the guidance of some older (original) 356 owners. Oddly therapeutic in a highly digital world. It took a couple of years (and more money than expected) to get the car to the reliability I'm happy with. The final part left is to redo the electrics entirely which should cost no more than $1500.The engine was rebuilt in 2013 from an old VW bug (1960s) engine 1.6L like many others along with most of the other parts. We modified the engine vents to make the vehicle California smog exempt (this is very important if you live in CA). The clutch has been replaced and the inner Bowden tube welded to stop the common problem of a dead clutch with Speedsters. The steering wheel has been reinforced and realigned. The breaks and break fluids replaced last year. The carburetors were cleaned and rebuilt last year and the engine is running smoothly and reliably. The interior seats were replaced as per original 3 years ago and in perfect condition. The car has run with no issues the past 14 months and is being looked after and driven on the weekends by my friend since I moved back to London in 2017.There are 2 small cracks on the windshield which are easily fixed. One (the larger one) was there before I bought the car at the bottom corner of the drivers side and I kept it for authenticity. The cars has been driven a total of 3-4K miles since my purchase in 2013. I moved back to London in early 2017 so I rarely get to drive her unfortunately and it's hard to justify keeping it to drive 1-2 days a year. I'm happy to provide some basic support (within reason) and share my knowledge of the car for the first few months of ownership as no 2 cars of this nature are exactly ever similar. Please take care of her!Happy to answer any questions. |
