The factory American Motors Firewall ID Tag matches the door VIN decal, Edelbrock intake dated 2/17/70 EXP.M3 stamped 401/425 H.P. rear of intake signed by Vic Edlebrock and says #5 for AMC NASCAR 71, original color is blue. This amazing piece of AMC Experimental NASCAR history has been stored in a dry garage with a cover on the car since the early 80’s. The car was wrecked lightly on the left front, repairs were started but never completed. With a fresh battery and fuel the engine fired right up, oil is clean, sounds good and does not smoke or knock. The floors are excellent and the car is close to rust free. Miles showing are 12,856 and are believed to be actual, interior is good clean original. We do not have any documentation at this time and hope that someone out there knows the history of this incredible find. Here is what we believe the car is, we have been told that this car was used to test and break in the Penske and Donohue 401/425 h.p. race engines. This engine #5 of approximately 10 built. We also believe this car was used as a Pace Car at some races. We welcome comments and history on this car please help us get the real story. This has to be one of the rarest and most valuable AMC cars in existence, it will be an easy restoration and would be an incredible asset to any muscle car collection. Our car was built 9/70, it is car number 6 with engine number 5, after talking to many AMC enthusiasts we believe there were 10 of these built for testing purposes in hopes of Homologation For NASCAR., to run against the big cubic inch NASCAR's I.E.
