A one owner 1972 Honda Z600 Coupe, only 43,000 miles (I've put 80 miles on it since), 25,000 from being towed behind a Winnebago , the tow-bar mounts are still in place and there is a wiring harness plug under the left front bumper and extra 1157 bulbs installed in the rear light housings (I don't know if they 'currently' work). No accidents or major benders . This second USA model Honda car (N600 sedan is first) is powered by a 600cc vertical twin CB series motorcycle engine putting out a whopping 37 horsepower at 8,000+ rpm (advertised) which was incredible for a four stroke engine at that time .The car sat for 30 years in Louisiana (check pics) until a high school friend told me it was headed for the wrecking yard after the land sold where it was parked. I thought NOOOO.... ( I paid what the wrecker wanted to take it , plus shipping to San Diego which was not inexpensive , but worked out compared to commercial estimates) After re-animating it ( I cut the head gasket from copper sheet , increasing compression) , the hard work is done . With the head off I could feel no apparent lip ( wear ) on the cylinder walls . There was a lot more work involved... It's time for a paint / bodyman (heavy sigh) or ? I didn't cover any of the flaws and this car is a very good example of what condition the body looks like before bondo and paint . I've seen these looking great , but from underneath you could see a couple dozen self-tapping screws where the "restorer" just screwed sheet metal over the rusted out floorpan ... This car runs and drives great , I've had it up to 65 in third gear with lots of rpm left (they are only supposed to go 78 mph) .These were meant to be driven (I had a '70 sedan back in '78 and it never had a working starter and it never got stuck , it's too easy to pick up . Plus , they're only 4' wide , no one on the sidewalk is safe ...) .You can drive it home for less than 10 cents a mile on the odometer ! EVERYBODY waves to you and they all want to know who makes it . There is a tennis ball size hole behind the left wheel and a 1.25" hole behind the right tire . ( lemons to lemonade , as a body guy/painter you could route the exhaust through the holes ala most new cars ) and very minor pitting overall. The front seats need upholstery , the headliner is in great shape . The floorpan is in GREAT condition with virtually no rust , almost unbelievable for these 'rods . I replaced the rotted exhaust with larger pipe ( removing the heat exchanger) . Just past the header pipes it goes to 1-7/8" , then opens to 2-3/8" , then to 2-7/8" before the muffler with a 3" inlet (think venturi effect) w/2, 2.5" outlets and it fits in the same spot . New dome light cover (new manufacture by Bill Colford in San Diego) . Wink 4 panel wide angle rear view mirror , I have the original visors but the hinges and plastic parts were crap . New flexible brake lines , new rear brake cylinders , new front pistons and seals. (front pistons are the same as rear Aston Martin and rear Jaguar) New fuel pump . New fat tires , 3"+ wider and 1"+ taller give the car an aggressive stance (they just fit inside the wheel wells) and a better ability to go off road , drop the front tire pressure down to 12-15 psi and climb in reverse , 'nuff said . New clutch disc (NOS , plus you get the original disc , which can be affordably relined in San Diego) . Original 1972 spare tire that still holds air . I have all four wheel caps . I have a new windshield seal . I have the original owner's manual and the service manual . Included is a scrolling message license plate frame , the first message should be "I kicked Godzilla's ass back in Tokyo" . Ready for cosmetics . W/paint and upholstery , barely running these sell for well over $10K ,there is an orange one currently showing on E-bay that proves my point (it sold or was pulled , they wanted $20K ) . My choice of color would be Emerald Green (metallic or even better , metal flake ) . To the best of my knowledge there are less than 300 still running in America . I removed the belt-driven fan and replaced it with an electric fan for better throttle response and higher top end . If you don't drop the clutch and instead drive it like like you would a fine Porsche , gently engaging the clutch and moderately accelerating to redline , it will give you years of entertainment , the c/v joints are way overbuilt for the torque/horsepower . This little 'rod was pulling a three blade fan at 8,000 rpm (8,500 red line) , talk about a drag ... (a fan is unnecessary above 35-40 mph) . The only thing missing is a bad-ass cam . I fabricated an adapter for the cone air filter . I fabricated the points cover from a 1" thick aluminum disc (it's milled 1/2" deep on the inside , leaving you room to mill the top) I got rid of the small garden tractor battery in the front and located a full size battery to the rear ( because the battery is in the rear and the V-belt pulley is free , you can now mount a high-amp alternator on an a/c clutch where the battery was if you plan on a lot of electric add-ons). I swapped in LED front "halo" blinkers w/halogen fog (instead of marker) lamps replacing the big yellow/orange incandescants . They look like they belonged from day 1 . LED rear brake/tail lamps . I have a kit to replace the stock (read expensive) oil filter with a ph8a and a Hayden oil cooler ( brings oil quantity up to 5 qts and keeps you cool) Right now I am using Honda Nighthawk (400 or 450 ?) oil filters which cost only about $4-5 . (VERY minimal adapting) I have the chrome "brush guard" for the front along with two carbs , two brake boosters , an excellent carb boot , the original air box and stripped air cleaner frame , the original head (one side had a Ford spark plug ... the owner's son drilled out a broken spark plug ... geez) plus more... if you were to sell the extras it would bring the final cost down quite a bit . Both carbs work , but both need rebuilding (idling issues). $3,8000 takes it home ,less than .10ct/mile . Stop by for a drive if you are not timid ... Local pick-up , but remember , it has tow-bar mounts . For better shipping rates , run ads on CL in your town (or close) and San Diego . I'll add more info after work . Subject to prior sale as it is also listed on CL in Orange and San Diego Counties . If you are new to E-bay , please don't bid if you are not familiar with the process... Please ask questions ! six 1 nine eight two 2 five 2 oh 2 .On Oct-25-19 at 07:56:49 PDT, seller added the following information:The towbar mounts are 39.5" apart outside edge to edge with a 1/2" hole 1-3/8" back from the front . |
