CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
1951 Mercury Eight For Sale- Beautiful Car that still wins awards even 19 years after it's restoration. This car is an amazing driver car with a 289 V8 and mild cam, with a C4 Automatic Transmission, Flowmaster Mufflers give it a beautiful rumble, and an Edelbrock Aluminum Intake, Ford 9" rear. Car was seen in the Five Finger Death Punch video for Blue on Black. Cruises on the highway at 70mph no problem. I've owned it for 4 years and put just under 5000 desert dry miles on it in that time, but that number can change as I still take it out on the weekends. Everything works as it's supposed to, Gauges all work, they are aftermarket but carefully placed within the dash, I had to look twice to even realize they were aftermarket. Speedo is original and works fine. AM/FM Cassette in the glove box, original radio (not working) still in the dash. Aluminum Radiator with a switch operated fan keeps this Merc running at 200 degrees F or less even in the Vegas summer. POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES! Air Shocks in the rear with lowering blocks, Front End lowered by the Drop Shop in Washington State. They were a reputable company back in the day, but no longer in business. The car just won an award at a local Blues Festival where many of the musicians were judges for the car show. Trevor from Monk and the Po Boys gave it the Mississippi Crossroads award.Exterior- high 7/10 Paint is 19 years old so it obviously doesn't look brand new anymore, but it's still beautiful. There are minor chips here and there that have been touched up, very minor fading starting to form on the roof, but no bubbling of the clearcoat. It would probably be considered a 5 footer and that's being nit picky. The hood falls slightly closer to the passenger side than the drivers side, about 1/8" or so. The chrome moulding just outside of the front passenger blinker has a crack in the surface, but the piece is intact. you can find a replacement or re-chrome this one. Wipers work, Every once in a while, when I turn the headlights on, the passenger one doesn't immediately come right away, but within 10 seconds of driving it comes right on. Drivers side brake light usually works, but again, every once in a while I get told it doesn't. I go to check it and it works fine. Usual old car finickey stuff. Front bumper has some small black spots forming on the chrome, not sure what it is, might buff out, but it doesn't appear to be pitting (I'd be shocked to see rust forming in Vegas). All glass is perfect, no cracks or pits. New White Walls put on earlier this year, under 1000 miles on them. I hit a hard crack in the pavement one night and lost 2 hubcaps, found them the next day and they got minor scratches on them, but nobody notices. Interior- 8/10. All fabric is fine, Carpet is fine, just starting to look a little aged, but no fading or wear, no rips. 1 button on the seat came off (I still have it) and one looks loose and will come off in the future, I haven't found a good seamstress I trust to put it back on properly. Gauges are clear and all work. Heater works but blows minimally. Heat is seldom used in a car in Vegas so I never did anything about it. Even had seatbelts installed so when that cop pulls you over to check out your ride, you're ok. Huge back seat, Interior is very spacious. I'm 6'3" and fit just fine in the car. It has a unique design that my wife likes- when both windows are down, her hair doesn't blow all over the place like in every other car.Mechanically- high 8/low 9 out of 10 . Runs absolutely awesome. The only reason I don't give it a 10 is because I'm sure someone out there knows one that runs better. The longer you let it sit, obvously the harder it will be to start in the morning and need more pumps on the gas. I've let it sit for 2 weeks and it took more time to start than if I start it every day. Much like many old Fords, you have to find the sweet spot within park to get her to fire up, a common Ford thing. My wifes 64 Thunderbird does the same thing. The previous owner told me that the Gas Tank has an overflow that leaks, so don't fill it all the way up, just fill it 3/4 of the way, so that's all I do. works fine. Has a locking gas cap. Also, if the car just sits there for a while, I will find small wet spots under the car, but if I run it for a few days in a row, i don't see any. Another common Old Car characteristic. Another thing to keep in mind, because of the lowered stance, if you have many passengers with you, you will notice more rubbing of the tires with the inner fenders when turning. Especially when going up driveways or where there is a sudden dip in the road. So you will either need to put air in the rear air shocks or go for a standard stance, or install air bags. I like this stance so I keep it as is. Also- the turn radius is much longer than newer cars, so keep that in mind when doing u-turns. I've been about as honest as I can and mentioned everything I can think of, but will edit the ad if I think of anything else. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions you have. As with any used car, you should look at it or have someone you trust look at it, therefore I welcome you to see it in person or if you know someone that lives in the Las Vegas area they are welcome to look at it on your behalf. Feel free to text me any questions, don't contact me through ebay, I don't always see those messages right away. Paypal or Cash Only. Will consider splitting shipping costs with buyer if the right price is metChris- (413) 262-9330 Text only (bad cell service, drops calls constantly)[email protected]
