This is a very rare car. It is not a 2-door wagon, it is US Government-ordered Delray Sedan Delivery with rear side-glass, no rear seat and a one-piece rear lift gate. Approximately 400 of these were ordered for Government use, mine was a National Park Service car used in Yellowstone Park. It has a National Park Service number-tag on the firewall behind the brake booster, and a Government Furnished Materials tag on the inside of the glovebox door. The Chevrolet wagons in 1958 were the Nomad (4-doors), Brookwood (4-doors), and the Yeoman (2 and 4-doors). This car is a Delray Sedan Delivery, as documented via VIN decoding (G in the VIN = Sedan Delivery) and cowl tag decoding (STYLE 1271 = Delray Sedan Delivery). Feel free to do some research on the internet and learn more about these rare vehicles. I’ve owned car since 2002, the bulk of the restoration took place from 2011-2013. There are less than 2,000 miles on it since it was restored. Since I’ve owned it, the car has been kept in heated storage under a car cover. The car was taken down to bare metal with a combination of DA sanding, chemical stripping and limited sandblasting (door & window jambs). The fenders and hood were chemically dipped at Redi Strip. The car was then primed in PPG DP40 Epoxy Primer, bodywork completed and sealed, and painted in PPG Honda Galapagos Green over GM Olive Silver basecoat/clearcoat. The floor pans have been replaced with reproduction pans. All glass was removed and resealed, including a new windshield and new door glass and vent windows. The firewall has had all original heater box cutouts and unnecessary holes welded up and been smoothed and been painted Galapagos Green. Every single nut, bolt, wire, piece of glass, weather-strip, etc. has been removed from this car and either replaced or refurbished and reinstalled – this car was literally taken apart to the point where there was nothing left to remove. The entire inside of the car was painted and then had Dynamat and RAAMAT sound-deadening materials put down in two layers – including the roof, insides of the doors, firewall, floors, etc. The rear-deck was rebuilt pretty much the way it was from the factory but to improve the quality and appearance I used oak plywood and stained it in black satin. I cannot explain the amount of time and level of care that went in to building this car, no corners were cut; it was truly a labor of love. The engine was completely rebuilt and is a 1959 348cid, bored .030 over, crank cut .010 under, with stock replacement pistons and an NOS stock cam/lifters/pushrods/rocker arms, new valves/springs/retainers, etc. The 700R4 overdrive automatic transmission has been fully rebuilt with mild performance upgrades, a rebuilt stock convertor, and a Bow Tie Overdrives TV system, along with Lokar shift linkage. The rear axle features a stock 3.70 ratio and has been rebuilt with new bearings/etc. The Classic Auto Air system uses the stock heater controls to operate and uses 134a refrigerant. The Kenwood stereo system and amp are completely hidden under the rear deck, has iPod/MP3 inputs and has 6 speakers. There are gauges hidden in the glovebox, and the factory temperature gauge and oil pressure and generator “dummy lights” work as well. The restoration goal was to make the car appear fairly stock and original with subtle changes and upgrades that would make it more enjoyable to drive and have paint that would make it really stand out – I think we achieved this. The car has been to numerous shows, but usually only for display. The car has been judged in two shows: At the Musclecar and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) in Rosemont in 2014, where it won a First-Place award and also a “Koolest Car” of the show award; and was featured in an article and video in the Daily Herald News. It was also featured by the online group Speedville.com and named their Car of the Week in March 2016. The online group Bangshift.com wanted to do a feature on it the following Spring, but I never followed up with them and got it done. The other show it was judged at was the 2018 Cars and Cops Show in Chicago where it won a Club Pick award. The car drives well and has been driven as far as 350 miles at one time for a show. It can cruise at 80 mph comfortably on the highway, with the windows up and the air conditioner on. The U.S. Government ordered approximately 400 cars built this way in 1958. It looks like a 2-door station wagon (which would’ve been a Yeoman), but it decodes as a Delray Sedan Delivery (which was not available as a wagon, only as a sedan or a sedan delivery). Note that there is a National Park Service tag mounted on the firewall above the master cylinder, #USNPS 14-7384; and on the inside of the glove box door there is a tag that reads: GFM 202530 (which stands for Government Furnished Material). Supposedly this car was a Yellowstone Park service vehicle. VIN / COWL TAG DECODING: VIN: G58J190---, which decodes as: 1171-series sedan delivery, L6, 1958, built in Janesville, WI. COWL: STYLE 58-1271 = 1958 1271-series sedan delivery, V8 TRIM 801 = Gunmetal and silver, vinyl material PAINT SPL A = Special (Federal Standard 595 Green) ACC. SPL-FWS = Special - Full Width Seat NOTES: Outbound carbs need to be tuned (they are not hooked up now), the car runs great on the center carb alone but to be perfect you could tune the outbound carbs as well. Speedometer works but isn’t accurate. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility, though I will strive to cooperate with the shipper of your choice. I have represented the above vehicle to the best of my knowledge, and there is no warranty expressed or implied. This car has a clear State of Illinois title in my name. You are encouraged to ask questions and inspect the car yourself. This car is advertised for sale locally also, so I reserve the right to end this auction early.
