Offered for sale is an original 1971 Challenger Convertible equipped with a 383 4-BBL Magnum engine and Hurst Pistol Grip 4-Speed transmission in FE5 Red with white interior and white convertible top. According to Galen Govier and other prominent sources, Dodge made just 41 Challenger Convertibles with a big block 383 and 4-speed. This was the last year of the Dodge Challenger Convertible, and the last year that Chrysler put a Big Blocks in an e-body.Whats more, if you wanted a Big Block Convertible in 1971, your choices were limited to a 383 4-BBL, 440 SIX PACK or a 426 HEMI as Dodge did not produce a 440 4-BBL. Considering SIX PACK convertibles are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and HEMIs are in the millions, this big block Mopar is a bargain. Another interesting factoid is that Dodge never produced an R/T Challenger Convertible in 1971, even if you ordered a 426 Hemi. The car is factory FE5 Rallye Red with white convertible top and white interior. The color combination is nothing short of stunning. The engine and transmission are matching numbers, however, I do not have a build sheet. The paint is older and has some nicks, scratches and blemishes but still shows very well. The interior looks great and the dash pad appears to be original and is nearly perfect with no cracks or scratches. The top was replaced when the car was repainted and looks great with no rips or tears. The best part about the car is how well it drives. The engine starts right up with no smoke or noises, and still retains its factory equipped Holley Four Barrel Carburetor. Even the choke works. The Hurst equipped 4-speed transmission shifts smoothly with no noises, brakes work great, and the 3.23 posi rear operates as it should. The radiator is original and nearly impossible to find. There are a couple metal patches in the trunk floor, and one patch in the drivers floor, but the frame and torsion bar mounts are solid. Overall, I would describe this car as a very nice driver that could trophy at local shows. Thanks for looking and Good luck!Note that this car is being sold in "as-is" condition without a warranty. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer but I will help in anyway I can at this end. A $1000 non-refundable deposit is due immediately after the auction has ended and the balance is due withing 7 days. The car is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. |
