CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
I purchased this car about 5 years ago from a museum where it had been part of 50's Drive In Diner display for about 20 years. It had been repainted the original colors and looked good but did not run. I had the gas tank professionally rebuilt (including a new sending unit), installed a new carburetor, fuel pump and water pump. I also replaced the oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets and cleaned off lots of old oil and crud. I had the brakes completely rebuilt including all new wheel cylinders (brakes are power assisted, steering in NOT). New OEM style shocks were installed (it has a nice set of period overload springs on the rear). At one point the dual exhaust was changed to a single exhaust, it's new so I haven't messed with it. The push button operated transmission was apparently previously rebuilt. Heater works great, NO air conditioning. The car runs great now and shows about 109,000 miles on the odometer. I believe this is the correct original mileage but cannot verify. It floats and drives as nicely as a big 1958 station wagon ever did. I was told the car spent most of its life on a summer estate in Maine prior to the museum ownership. I have enjoyed driving the car frequently to my summer home near Yellowstone (200 mile round trip) but it's time to move on to another project. Tires should be replaced because they are probably 25 years old, I still drive on them but probably shouldn't go as far as I do. Someday it may need an engine rebuild but not now.I recently had the interior completely re-done in a high end reproduction, patterned after a 1958 special edition. The interior is outstanding ($12,00), but a few details are left for the new owner (visors redone but not installed, dome light not installed, some rubber door seals and window trim should be replaced and a few minor, easy to do paint touch ups). The body has no dents. However, there are a couple of rather small hidden dents on the right front bumper, but at some point the bumpers probably should be re-chromed, I am sure they are original. The roof rack is cool original but also could use new chrome. The paint looks great but is not perfect. It has three chips in it that are not really noticeable and there are a few barely noticeable bubbles on the left rear panel behind the wheel and on the spare tire door (no spare). Glass appears to be original and is in good shape with no delamination or bubbling. The windshield has a rather large chip that was repaired. This is a very nice, updated survivor, driver quality car that can be a lot of fun as is or easily taken to another level of restoration.
