CAR DESCRIPTION FROM SELLER
This 1954 Austin-Healey 100 BN1 roadster is a left-hand-drive North American export that underwent a cosmetic and mechanical restoration in 2013 and was acquired by the seller four years ago. The car is finished in Carmine Red over black, and power is provided by a rebuilt, numbers-matching 2,660cc inline-four paired with a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive on the top two gears. Modifications include an M-style wooden steering wheel, a 100M high-lift camshaft, a Denis Welsh Racing valve cover and finned aluminum oil pan, conversion to negative ground, and a five-blade plastic fan. This BN1 is now offered with a folder of records and photographs from the restoration, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate signed by Gerry Coker, a service manual, factory tool kit, a reproduction jack and bag, removed factory parts, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name. The Coker-styled bodywork was repainted in its factory shade of Carmine Red in 2013 during a restoration carried out by Triumph Rescue in Bally, Pennsylvania. The body was removed from the frame and stripped to bare metal, and the frame was also stripped and refinished. Closeups of the finish, trim, and lenses are provided in the gallery below. The 100 model features a windshield that can be lowered into the raked position seen above to reduce aerodynamic drag.15” painted wire wheels were factory equipment and feature polished knock-off hubs. Vredestein Sprint Classic tires are mounted all around. Four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes are equipped, with independent suspension up front. Exterior features include wing-mounted side mirrors, driving lights, and a badge bar. A new soft top remains unused and is included in the sale along with a top frame. The factory side curtains are also included, but are said to require restoration before use.The interior was re-trimmed in black leather with matching carpeting and door panels. A Mike Lempert-built 100M-style wood-rimmed steering wheel was added, and the factory steering wheel is included in the sale. Red lap belts have been installed, complementing the seat upholstery’s red piping.Smiths instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, about 1k of which have been added by the seller. The odometer was reportedly not reset during the restoration, though true mileage is unknown. The rebuilt 2,660cc inline-four features twin SU carburetors and was fitted with an M high-lift camshaft during the restoration. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive on second and third gears. A Denis Welch valve cover was added, as well as a Dennis Welch finned aluminum oil pan and a five-blade plastic cooling fan. The electrical system was converted to negative ground with a single battery and an alternator. An oil change was performed one year ago by the seller.Number 213669 is shown on the engine tag above, matching the number listed on the BMIHT Certificate.Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery below. The BMIHT Certificate lists a build date of May 24, 1954, along with the factory colors and component numbers. Big Healey designer Gerry Coker’s signature can be seen at the bottom of the document.Included with the sale is a collection of removed factory parts consisting of a valve cover, oil pan, four-blade fan, steering wheel, and more.
